If you can't answer that question, then your conclusions may be based on something other than honesty. You can't expect me to respectfully listen to you if you are closed to full, honest inquiry-if you are unwilling to allow, theoretically, that you might be wrong. I am open-minded and willing to change my position, if warranted. Can you also be fair enough to follow the facts, wherever they lead?

Many unbelievers have carefully considered these questions, perhaps even more deeply than you have. And some of us were at one time just as religious as you are now. After honest examination, I am convinced that the bible is primitive mythology, that there is no evidence for a god, that Christians are not more moral or tolerant than atheists, and that religion has caused more harm than good. Why should my conclusions be less valid than yours?

Here's a small list of things that if true, make Christianity false:

The Bible was imagined, conceived, and written entirely by Men without outside assistance or interferance.

There is no afterlife.

Jesus' father was a mortal man.

Sin is a human concept.

The Bibles (Old and New) are filled with contradictions.

Hey dude, as a Christian, I respect you and appreciate your question for not being bashful or offensive (A refreshing change)

What would make Christianity false? Well what makes Christianity is the belief that Jesus is God, and is the son of God. (check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicene_Creed for the full blown belief)

Now if Jesus wasn't what he claimed to be (And what I believe to be true), then yeah that would make Christianity false.

But the point of religion is not to prove whether God exists or not. When you are religious, you assume he does. I don't try to prove or disprove the fact. It's like an axiom.

Let me answer your points:
* I am convinced that the bible is primitive mythology
Yes in a way. I don't believe the Bible was dictated by God to a scribe sitting with clay tablets. It is primitive in the way that the authors were human, and with the text they wrote they also instilled their own moral values, prejudice, and standards. Now in 2006 a lot of these (if not most of these) are outdated. But it's not the word themselves that are important. What is important is, what is the message? I don't have a lot of sympathy for Christian who takes the Bible to the letter. These people read the book and put it down. That's easy. My quest for answers begins AFTER I've read the book. Not before.

*that there is no evidence for a god
You're absolutely right. There is no evidence. It's all a matter of faith. Faith drives the rest. But you know what? It's better this way (that there is no evidence that is). I believe in a God that transcends our physical world. I believe he is beyond what we can see, feel or measure

* Christians are not more moral or tolerant than atheists
That's also true... Morality and tolerance are not the exclusivity of Christian. Some atheists are lot more moral that some Christians, and vice-versa. As a Catholic, I believe being a moral and tolerant person is a mandate from Jesus (That is, if I wasn't, I would be ignoring what Jesus taught me). But you don't have to believe that to be a fair, tolerant and moral person.

* that religion has caused more harm than good
That's a bit subjective. I can't fully agree with you, but it is very true that some people who call themselves religious have committed many atrocities. There is no question about that. However, that does not negate the good nature of God. Men have blasphemed by using his name while perpetrating their evil deeds. But I still believe in God being good. Me keeping my faith when other so-called religious do bad thing does not make me a bad person, and it doesn't make religion itself bad. I does give it a bad rap, though.

* if you are unwilling to allow, theoretically, that you might be wrong
Theoretically I could be all wrong. In fact, at times I have doubts. When that happen, I am a little distraught. But doubts aren't bad: They are a sign that I apply critical thinking, and that my faith is maturing. I don't take anything for granted without thinking about it first. Beside, I'm in good company: The apostles themselves had their doubts!

Being a Christian requires lots of introspection and thinking. In fact I'm to a point where I can tell why I believe in God. More than that: Why am I a Christian, why am I a Catholic, and why I am a Roman Catholic. But that's only recently that I found these answers. And who knows, they might well change later.

So anyway... if you have any other questions, please feel free to get in touch

If Jesus was not God-in-the-flesh...then Christianity would be false.

If Jesus was just a man...he would not have the ability to take our sins away from those that trust in Him. (Atone for our sins)

There are many other things like the accuracy of the Bible that could (and are) picked on to discredit Christianity.

Since I'm a convert to Christianity, I know most of the views non-Christians hold. I used to say and believe them myself.

I do not believe them anymore. Jesus is God. The Bible is very accurate. Yes, there have been some errors in different translations but the errors are not enough to throw away the entire Bible. That scares some Christians. Some would would rather stick their fingers in their ears and yell that the Bible is perfect...but is isn't. There have been a few mistranslations...like snake handling.

I dont know who you are talking to exactly. But in my most humble opinion, I believe that religion is a state of mind which suits some people of a certain nature. They need to beleive in a god because they maybe need a sort of focal point to move around to. For some, without that they become erratic, like they have no beginning and no end. I truly feel that there is no beginning and no end but not everyone can work life that way. Its something like a wheel, and you have the centre. Without that centre the wheel would not go round. That centre is of extreme importance. For focus, for something to always fall back upon when the illusion of existence starts to dawn, and our minds cannot handle that.Maybe its like a temporary safety net. somewhere to go to when life becomes harsh or when awareness of illusion hits.i think morality or tolerance has nothing to do with being a so called follower of some religion. Its in some peoples nature to be so, and not in others. Then again, once we start trying to prove there is no god, then maybe somewhere inside, we actually do believe there is, otherwise why bother trying to disprove something. No?

How do you explain the paradox with an oxymoron?

Christians are mere atheists - oxymoron
Christian believe in God, atheists do not. Cut n dry

I will lay this out clear and simple. You will know in the future what life will be like without God IN ANY WAY. The world will be chaotic, DO WHAT THOU WILL will be the norm. When these same people take this ideals against others, hatred and selfishness will ensue.
The real dilemma is many people try to find the facts of God when they don't bother seek Him. would you find more answers about Bill Clinton on the books you read or meeting him yourself?
If you're married, get your spouse to write a book of themself. Then ak them if you want to get them through the book or through them.
You may well find the same answer.

About Christianity or the Bible? What could be said about it if true would make it false? That is a deep question, and to be honest really hard to answer, and I'm trying to. I trying to come up with something.

If its true that God hates fags (like that dumb-butt preacher teaches), and that is diffrent from Jesus' teachings to love the sinner hate the sin, that that would prove that either Christianity or the Bible was a sin. IF God came down, and proved he hated fas, PROVED it by telling us, and then killing them all, I would have to re-think things, as that would make the Bible completley inaccurate (if one part is wrong, the whole thing is). I hope that made sense.

Your conclusions are not less valid than mine, or reverse. You are completley open to have them, speak them, and follow them, even if we disagree. I hate that so many believers with their loud mouths and intolerance give those of us that believe in love of all, rational thought, and faith, such a bad name. Even I see how wide spread religion is harmful, even to the point of harming their cause. But I am an individualist, it works for me, you wont change my mind, and I accept your belief, whatever it is, works for you, and I wont change my mind.

But neither one of us stop the debate. But thats what makes it fun :)

If Christ did not raise from the dead on the third day, Christianity would be false. That means that there is no hope to conquer death. Then we all might as well eat and drink for tomorrow we die. But I KNOW my Savior lives because of what is does for and with me. The cold hard facts is Jesus rose from the dead and no one can prove otherwise. What you decided to do with that facts is yours, but he loves you and truth be told he died in the first place to take your place so you wouldn't have to died a second time. I'm sorry if you come across some people that are still doing ungodly things, Jesus never said we would be perfect that's why he had to be. He just said that we would be forgiven when we search for Him and ask for forgivenness when we walk away from him.

I use the bible as a book of mistakes and as a study book. Listed inside are the causes and effects of death, sin, and obedience. I just try to put these into practice, and I have become a more peaceable and better person for it. I agree that religion has caused harm, but to generalize that all have caused more harm is just too much. Which religions do you know send people off to war to kill and fight? now, which religions refuse to fight? Think about that.

i'll grant that you're an honest seeker of truth. why cant you grant that christians are honest seekers of truth also? does atheism win by default? has science disproved god already? the brightest scientists are not even atheists. theyre agnostic or believers of some god-concept. as for your question,i think it cannot be answered logically. if B is true and A is true and is a property of B, it cannot be the case that A is also false. that will violate the law of noncontradiction dont you agree?

i believe that there is more to this universe than the human body can sense. how do we know whether or not God exists? the fact is, physically, we don't. but does this mean that He does not exist? not exactly. what if He is there, but we just cannot see Him? its like the concept of oxygen: just because you cannot see it, doesn't mean that it does not exist. you cannot prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that it (oxygen) exists, simply for the fact that you cannot see it physically. you have to rely on indicators to assume that it exists. the same applies with theology, and Christianity in particular.
