When first getting the Internet at home it can get a bit addictive. As with any thing that is addictive it can pull the family away from each other by causing them to spend less time together. Perhaps if plans for family time were made to make sure there was always time together then nothing bad will happen. Of course there are all the "adult" things the Internet could bring into the house, but it all start as an addiction. Whether addicted to reading stories on-line, watching Videos, chatting in a messenger, or some of the many X rated things out there. It can all be labeled an addiction.

The same reason that relationships built on the Internet can't be sustained: people disassociate from each other and relate only to the electronic word and they then can no longer relate. We don't have conversations anymore - we "text' and "IM" each other. We aren't aware of the people around us; we are plugged into our iPod or on our cell phone. We don't fall in love after court and spark, touching, testing, listening to each others voice, learning nuances....no, now we "fall in love" with "soulmates" by reading what they choose to type in a space. There is no valid connection and so there is no real love. It's all a fantasy and when reality hits, everything falls apart. Families that have computers - and do not limit the use and time spent on it - lay their family relationship open to such disassociation which can ultimately undermine and weaken and even destroy it

people tend to have two sides to them...one they show the world and then there is their true-selfs. the computer/internet lets you kinda vent or let you be yourself depending and you can't always do that with family members.
