I'm going to assume that you're thinking about getting a dog. If you want one, get one. You and your friend can find other ways to socialize. Don't do without a pet because a friend is challenging you to choose between her and it. She's probably afraid of them, or just doesn't care for dogs. HOWEVER, if the dog you're thinking of getting is one of the breeds known for aggression or that has the ability to take down a child and kill, such as the bull terrier, rottweiller, etc., and IF you are planning on this dog being an indoor dog which visitors will be required to learn to tolerate, you might want to question your own motives. Some things just aren't worth the risk or the worry. If you choose this, you'll have about 10 years during which most people will be fearful of coming to your door. If you need this....for whatever reason that would be (drug dealer, something to hide, people out to kick yer butt), then by all means go for it. But if all you want is a companion and a bit of guard duty, a little pound puppy does the trick just fine!

If your friend is being selfish and trying to make you unhappy by telling you that, then she's not a good friend at all. Dogs are wonderful companions and sometimes they are better than people. Tell you friend that you are sorry to see her go. Or you can tell her that the dog will be inside and you guys can talk out in the yard. But don;t give up the chance of having a dog.

Oh Please, Tell her to come over then show her what you got. Then tell her not to worry, You wont even play with it when she is their. Keep on shoving it away from you saying " My friend is here I dont have time for you now. Go play somewhere else you stupid dog. Try that a few times. Your dog will get over it quickly. Your friend may speak up about your behavior to your new found pet. Then ask her what is more important, this dog or our friendship? I'm sure she'll find room for this little companion. Might even bring you closer as friends.

I assume since this is under the dog catagorie you mean a dog. i DON'T mean to be rude but if she will stop being your "friend" over something as small as that then was she REALLY your friend in the first place? If you can afford to keep a dog, and if you want a dog then get one. If she decides for give up your 'friendship' over a dog than she wasn't your true friend so I wouldn't worry.

If your friend doesn't like the fact that you are getting a dog, that's her problem. She needs to see that you do things for yourself and that you don't change your mind just for her. Tell her that she'll get used to it and a dog won't cause her any trouble. Besides, how could anyone resist an adorable puppy. Try to explain to her that having a dog isn't her choice and she needs to grow up and accept it because you guys are friends.

Is your friend allergic to them or doesn't like them ? I'd think that your friend would be willing to consider if it is something you'd like.
Sometimes it's easier to find a new friend than a cool dog. But a good friend wouldn't put you in the position to make that decision.

If your friend is going to refuse to visit because of the puppy you want to get, then it's her loss. It sounds hard, I know.
There is a chance that in the future she might change her mind and try to contact you. Decide what to do when that happens.
Good luck!
