Trust me, drinking will affect a relationship at any age if it is done in excess. It did mine. My wife became very distant from me and looked to others for the emotional fulfillment that she needed because she felt I could not fulfill those needs. She never cheated on me physically, but emotionally she was gone for a long time, which led to me drinking more and a whole host of other problems. We have worked things out, and I rarely drink anymore, and now she feels much more comfortable around me and has become close to me once again and we are on the long road to recovery.
If you cannot control your drinking, I would say stop. If you are having trouble stopping, then get yourself a support group. Do not let a bottle get in the way of what could be a happy, loving, life-long relationship.
