If something claiming to be a Christian has hurt you then I can see why you would be jaded and/or hurt. If you have what you consider valid reasons for your disrespect and sarcasm then do the 1st Amendment thing until you're blue in the face. But if you know nothing of Christianity and you're talking out of ignorance, please educate yourself before you start talking. The cynicism and Jesus quips get old after a while when they constantly flow from ignorant mouths.

I like this post...
I am an atheist, but I do agree that religion is not necessarily the problem, ignorance is. I can be fairly open minded and due to my reading of the Bible I will never convert to Christianity. This however does not mean that I scoff at the teachings of Christ, his ideals were pretty impressive, but then again so were Gandhi's, and he didn't need to be the son of God. Thanks for the post.

I think for some people, they have such a negative reaction is it may feel as though it's being shoved down their throat, and the ones that always scream about it, usually are the ones who do not practice what they preace; that's the sad part about it. I was watching Myra Angelou on Oprah one day,.....and Oprah asked her how she felt, and did she consider herself a Christian. Myra Angelou's response was, she doesn't consider herself a Christian, because that would imply she was Christ-like, and she said she wasn't. I thought that was a wonderful answer, and Oprah just about fell out. I know several people that quote from the bible, but these people also walk the walk. I have a problem when people rant about the bible and Christianity, and carry on like they have had peronal conversations with God. A person's relationship with God, is a very personal and private thing, and that';s as it should be

For one, to lash out back at someone just doesn't do any good either in the short run or long. You have to understand that they might have bad experiences with the people, not the religion. How can they? Religion is just a word. They have a fixed idea on the general population in Christianity, but is that really a concern? You have your life. Live it! Enjoy it! There is no need to get angry over something you can only just brush off your shoulder. They have created the problem within themselves. Therefor they, not you, need to resolve the problem within them. I hope this helps on some tention relieved. Cheers!

As I have seen in the questions and answers of many (not all) non christians, they have no clue what Christianity is or teaches. Seems they like to take bad things people have done in the name of Christianity, and assume that its what is taught and what real Christians believe.

I cant tell you how many times such questions are posted like "The Bible says Thou shalt not kill... so why do Christians eat meat?" or something similar. Which would easily BE answered if they would actually READ the Bible or even just listen to a Christians answer. Or the famous "If God exists, why is there so much suffering?"

They dont want the answers really. They are angry with God and think they have amo against Him. Which they dont, but they dont want to see it.

I know a VAST amount about christianity, thanks. That's why, when I see blatant hypocrisy, I retort.
Mostly everyone who does not have a financial gain from xtianity and who has researched what's in the bible, where it originated from and cross-references 'facts' within the bible, comes to the conclusion that there is very little truth in the book so many people see as 'The Truth', today.

So yes, I know a lot about the bible. I can shout out the truth about it as much as I deem necessary. If you don't want to accept the facts, that's YOUR problem, not mine. Perhaps it should be YOU that does some research into where your religion comes from. But I forget...you are told NOT to question it, aren't you....don't you find that a *tad* suspect?

WELL said, G-Bear. :)

Doesn't it go the other way too ? There are so darn many statements made by Christians running down non-believers.
In your mind, is it okay one way but not the other ?
About knowing about Christianity. I went to a Catholic church, had all of the sacraments until I was about thirteen. When my family was getting ready to go to church one Sunday, I told my mother that I'd rather not go. She asked why. I told her that all the things that the priest says doesn't make sense to me. Mother said that since I've heard it all over and over again, and I don't believe it, there's no use for me to go.
That was the last time I ever went to church, except for funerals and weddings, out of respect for others.
Since that time I've made a study of all the major world religions, and most of the lesser ones as well.
Most people who call themselves religious know their religion only. How can they possibly say theirs is the best if they know nothing of the others ?
I've studied them all. I've thought about them all. I've studied the history of the world religions, gave them all deep thought, and decided that it's all just superstition.

Americans believe that things we have provided in this country , such as the first amendment , exist everywhere. Guess what!?!they do not. If you ask a Christian a question about their faith, be prepared for a biblical answer. If it doesn't fit your agenda , get over it. I always love the way that people will sight various freedoms for themselves, yet will not extend them to others.

Some people do know about it and have been hurt, as you say, and that's where it comes from. Quips are just that and nothing to worry about. You don't think Jesus is getting upset, do you?

I obviously know more about the subject than most people posting on the Internet.

Maybe Christians should follow that advice and those who know nothing of US history, the bible and the history of religion should clearly state at the beginning of their question or answer they are ignorant and really don't know what they are talking about.
