Have to realize, the body is made of of two sides, joined in the middle. They are not identical. Most people have seen pics of mirror images of the face.. one is unable to recognize that person.. So, it is not uncommon for those differences to be quite obvious.

Bilateral asymmetry is actually the norm rather than the exception. Our left halves are slightly different from our right side. An interesting demonstration of this is to take a frontal picture of someone's face (it could be yourself) and place a mirror on it in a way that one half lines up with its own mirror image. This would be perfect bilateral symmetry and I assure you, the image would look amazingly different from your natural appearance. The embryo does not develop in complete bilateral harmony. I am skeptical about the doctor's explanation simply because the fetus moves around and changes position quite a bit. If this were not to happen in the uterus, a lot of individuals would have birth palsies and deformations of limbs and joints. Your sister should be happy that she is quite normal.

Everyone is different on both sides of the body. WE are not symmetrical which accounts for your ears nor being the same. Mine aren't either!!
If we were symmetrical, we would have very strange bodies and faces.

i dont know how rare it is. i dont think it is too rare because i have seen people that have different ears on their face. its just how you may have been before you were born and all. that is something that makes you unique and different from others.
