America is a country that thrives on absenteeism. Instead of sitting down and having a conversation, we will just call them on the cell while on our way to do something else. Pets, however, need human contact, which reminds us of the need for interaction. Unfortunately, we give most of our attention to our pets instead of our human companions.

Not sure that we are becoming closer to our pets than ever before. True pet owners love their pets as a member of the family. I would hope it has always been that way,

Because we have forgotten how to truly care for our fellow humans. And we are selfish and would rather not sacrifice for a family, we want to keep everything for ourselves, that includes time, money, freedom, anything children might take away or come in conflict with....."Kids what are you crazy!!!! I like myself to much for that!! I wouldn't be able to do the things I love if i was tied down like that..."
We think honesty is to hard, and so avoid the conflict via emotional detachment...we fill the need with a dog or cat ...pathetic...People who treat an animal like a child are ridiculous boobs..They have no potential.... children do!!!!!!!!!!!!!

because americans have lost a grip on how to form relationships with other people and nuture them in this fast passed sociaty of ours..it is easier to be close to a pet that all you have to do is take care of them and love them....there is no real work involved.....
the second part to this is americans no longer see animals as a source of food or fuel like they did a long time ago.....you can form a bond with your pet without worrying that he will be on your supper table tomorrow...

Because as americans we now are all so vain an so shallow that the only thing we can love and trust is our pets.

Human beings will sometime let you down. Your pets love you unconditionally no matter what you do or look like. They just want to me loved and cared for.

I think it's because pet's don't judge you, treat you badly, are loyal friends, and a pleasure to have as a friend, and for company, so you're never alone.

Please educate yourself on the human animal bond and then if you think we are bonded in America, check out information on Sweden and their high quality standards on animals. The country doesn't even have animal shelters because there is no stray problem, and most animals have pet insurance.

I wouldn't say it's because they can't make new friends. Maybe because pets just seem so loyal and simple. You know that there not going to lie to you and do all that other stuff that we as humans do. I dunno though. It's a good question and had for me to explain. :)

Many people feel less connected to their families, neighbors, communities, etc., so pets give them comfort.
