I am not a native Spanish speaker, but I took it in school for like, 5 years, and I forgot a lot of it. It is sad, because I really wish I could speak another language...

Yup - I took French throughout most of elementary school (because it was mandatory), took one year of it in high school, then dropped it. I wasn't fluent with it but I used to be able to talk, read, understand and write in basic French. Now I can barely even put together one sentence. It's pretty sad because I even got an award for it. Sometimes I can understand when I'm watching French movies/TV shows, but not entirely. You lose what you don't use.

Yep - took 6 years of spanish in school and couldn't hold conversation if my life depended on it. I do remember some words and can pick some up if someone else is speaking it though.

I forgot a lot of the Spanish I learned in high school. Some of it does come back when I hear it, but I don't remember enough to be able to have a conversation. What you don't use, you lose.

Yes, I use to speak German quite well but it has been many years. I was stationed there when I was in the service before I went to Vietnam.

when I lived in Mexico I could speak like conversational Spanish, but now? it's been like a yr and I can hardly put together one sentence in Spanish,I guess if you don't use it you lose it

sometimes i forget like how to say a word...like one day i couldnt remember how to say desert in portuguese and i was kicking myself for forgetting....i remembered like 15 mins later...or sometimes im talking to someone in english and i start talking spanish or say some word in spanish...i do that to my friends all the time and they laugh at me....

i forgot most of my German due to lack of use, and my English has gotten worse since living in Puerto Rico
