for the same reason others molest children and lie about it...
and that last part is like asking if it's the american way to be an omnivore, some do it, others don't.

What those priests did was horrible -- but not all Catholic Priests did it.
Catholics do not have a monopoly on sex sins.
Why do Protestant Ministers like Jim Bakker and Jesse Jackson have affairs and lie about it? Is that the Protestant way? To lie?

First, I want to say that not all Catholic priests molest.
The reason why...well...why would anyone molest a child? They are sick in the head. They are sinners. They are human...just because someone is in ministry doesn't give them the "I'm-perfect" pass.
It's shocking to us when we find out the gross junk priests do because we trust them. They lie about it because they got caught. Have you ever lied about something to cover up something you did?

as if the catholic way is to molest? they lie for the same reason anyone does...they know its wrong....i think the real question here should be why do they molest?.....telling the truth about it doesnt absolve it

I think the celibacy thing screws them up. Then lie and fall short like everyone else.
