"Purple ribbon" is a UKC designation. It (ONLY) means that the previous 3 generations have been UKC reg,dogs...of the SAME BREED,btw.

What type of dog is it? If it is a coon hound purple ribbon bred does Not mean that they are rare. It means that both parents are pure whatever breed they may be. If they are any other color than that means somewhere back in the breeding one of it's ancestors was crossed with a different breed.

That *is* interesting... Better ask the person you got the dog from. It sounds like a marketing gimmick to me, but maybe it's just their own terminology for something specific.

Might want to ask your breeder and then another breeder of the same dog breed, so you can check out their story. There are many disruputable "breeders" in the world. If you bought it at a petstore, well it means you were duped.
