The U.S. doesn't have an official language as such ... but we should have!! And present day Mexicans have no claim whatsoever over any part of the U.S. ... even the Mexican constitution acknowledges where the border is drawn, and what belongs to Mexico ... and having read their constitution, I didn't find one reference to California or New Mexico or whatever they want to claim belongs to Mexico ... we have to deal with the realities of TODAY ... not the realities of hundreds of years ago ... at the same token, Russia could then claim Estonia again ... Sweden could claim the ports of Germany .... and on and on it goes ....

One of the principals of government is the acceptance of a boundary, both internally and externally. When the Spanish conquered the Native Americans in the 16th century, they established an accepted boundary for their territory. As time progressed, the British Colonies in America, some of which were located in North America began to move westward; running into conflict with Native Americans and the French as well as the Spanish. Since the French and Spanish were allies against the British, the British were very concerned with this westward expansion. Many of the colonist opposed this policy with was one of the causes of the War for Independence. As time went on, the new United States pushed westward into what became the Mexican territory, using questionable reasons for going to war with Mexico and taking much of the Southwest from the Mexican.
Until the time of the gold rush, most of the people in the southwest were of Mexican/Spanish decent and spoke Spanish. So technically, the Spanish and the Spanish language was here in North America years before the British came to these shores.
Oh, and FYI: the United States has no official language even though there have been efforts throughout the years to impose English as the "Official Language".

English is not the official language.
There is not currently an official language of the usa.
Also parts of the usa were part of mexico and then the europeans took their land just like the europeans came and took the native americans land even though the native americans and mexicans were here first. It is not fair what they did and everyone should be aware of that fact. Also you should take into consideration that the majority of mexicans and latinos are catholic and do not believe in abortion or birth control because to some people birth control is seen as silent abortion. I think it is neccessary to accomodate their language and there is nothing wrong with knowing different languages. I am bilingual and I love being bilingual and many countries use several different languages so why can't we use spanish and english. Also please that we often accomodate several other langauges.

Peace and Love?? Yeah right! First of all America is the land of immigrants. BY this i don't mean mexicans only, but immigrants in general. I can pretty much bet my life you are not a native american thus, making you an immigrant. Some parts were indeed Mexico and while those who were living at the time might be dead, but their descendants still live on. Everyone is having babies!!!!!!! If you are so concerned then tie your tubes. Freedom of speech allows me to speak any language i want. You should try learning spanish because your english isn't so great it seems. Maybe you will have better luck!!

I am so glad to know these Mexican-Americans know their history. The key word is HISTORY. Why is this repeated so often? I can only guess it is a lame attempt on some peoples part to somehow make illegals coming in from Mexico justified. I also would prefer that once you become a citizen of the United States, the hyphenated American should no longer exist. This seems to be a more divisive term rather than one that indicates as an American I will assimilate into the American way of life and language and be proud to do so.

There is no official language in the United States. Morgy obviously doesn't realize the distances involved, as the vast majority of Americans live thousands of miles from the Mexican border. Unlike Europe, where you can cross 4 or 5 national boundaries in a day, the United States is much larger, where it sometimes takes at least 6-7 hours to cross one state (try driving through Tennessee lengthwise and you'll know what I mean).
And the southwestern portion of the US was Mexican at one time - for about 30 years, after Mexico's independence from Spain. But, after the US kicked the crap out of them in the Mexican-American War, Mexico ceded California, Nevada, New Mexico, most of Arizona and portions of other states to the US. The US purchased the bottom portion of Arizona in 1853.

do you have the same complaint with the Canadians, just because the speak english that's better??? I am not sure that the official language of the US is english, by law. I know that California had to pass a law stating that so business signs would have english on them also, not just spanish, korean, chinese, etc. as far as birth control, should your mother have practiced that? there are alot of babies born to many people, do you feel there should be a limit? maybe starting with yourself! educate yourself, help a person learn english -- learning a new language is very difficult, if you do not know another language, try it, you will see. As far as this nation belonging to someone else, it has had many owners, and many abusers, try and stop the abuse and recognize the previous owners, native american, spanish, french, portugese, italian, english, and others. Besides who really owns anything?

USA was Mexico? that is true only of the Southwest but guess what the 1st 13 States of the United States use to be part of Great Britain, heck nearly all land East of the Mississippi was part of Great Britain not Mexico.
Great Britain gave birth to the United States, then the United States declared Independence from the former Motherland who is nowadays our Ally.
My State Michigan use to be part of Quebec but my French-Canadian Great-Great Grandmother who was born in Ontario but descended from Quebec knew that Michigan was no longer part of Quebec when she legally settled Michigan in 1877.
In addition to coming to America legally she also learned to speak English (I know this cause according to the 1930 Census record she lived with my Great Grandparents which were her Daughter and Son-In-Law and the file said that French was her native tongue but yes she is fluent in English.
Mexico lost most of the Southwest to the United States in the Mexican War in 1848 and the U.S. Govt paid for Legal ownership of the land (the Mexican Govt made Millions from the deal, in 1853 the U.S. Govt purchased more land from Mexico (The Gadsen Purchase which forms the Southern tips of New Mexico and Arizona).
Unfortunately the Mexicans are not being taught this and they think they can come into the Southwest without Permission, and they refuse to learn English expecting us to learn Spanish.
I say it is time to quit teaching Spanish in the Public Schools, if one wants to learn it in College go ahead although I would like to encourage you not to.
I am glad I took French instead of Spanish, at least the French-Canadians don't come into America illegally and at least the ones who intend to visit America and/or live there, actually go about learning English.
Oh right now English is not the Official Language of America, it is currently the Unofficial Language of America.
It should be Official though.
It's already the Official Language of several States although 2 States have 2 Co-Official Languages.
English and Hawaiian are Co-Official in Hawaii
English and Spanish are Co-Official in New Mexico

This is part of the La Reconquista movement. This is a movement by Mexicans to take back land that once belonged to Mexico. Supposedly, it is taught in Mexican schools that the land belongs to them, and it is their right to come to the United States.
I'm guessing this is just a fabrication by the world's power elite to merge the US, Canada, and Mexico into a North American Union.
Check out www.spp.gov and you will see. Also, wnd.com had an article on this. Also, type in NASCO in a search engine. They are planning a North American corridor to transport goods via rail from Lazares Cardenas in Mexico all the way to Canada. It bypasses the longshoremen unions in the US. Also, Kansas City is going to be a central hub in all of this, and they will have MEXICAN customs officials working in KC at the Smart Port. KC Southern railroad has already purchased railroad tracks in Mexico as part of the initiative.

Please... In Europe most of the countries require that you speak the language of the bordering countries, at least if you plan on becoming successful in your future career. When I was in Germany a lot of them spoke English, French, Italian, as well as Spanish. The same when I was in France, Switzerland (There they spoke English, Italian, French, German, and they're own unique Deutshe dialect), and Spain. The students over there are fluent in at least three different languages by the time they finish HS. They're accomodating and you don't see them having a hissy fit. Get over it... Society is evolving and becoming more global and part of that is (God Forbid!) learning another language...
Also if you are not Native American or British (The first American immigrants) than you must be Dutch, German, Eastern European, Irish, Italian, Asian, Jewish, African American, African, Middle Eastern, etc... all of whom were (still are being) treated the same way the Mexican immigrants are being treated now, with disdain and disapproval...

It is funny how many say it is not the official language-just because a couple of spineless snakes in our government thought well maybe it is not written.. History books and Geography books from all (including other countries) say it is. It shows how many people jump on a foolish statement-I guess that makes them Fool Followers.
As far as what once was-if it truly was(some debate that) too bad-they sold most of it and the people than didn't do anything about it. Done deal.
