It's kind of like being an ex-addict living in a world where drug dealers are on every single street corner and everyone else is walking around high.
As someone who's quit drugs, drinking and smoking, I find the religious dealers more annoying than the signs for Marlboros and Budweiser. But that doesn't mean I'm going to go back to that unhealthy lifestyle.

I can't answer about being an athiest, since I am not one, and I do not believe you are either. My personal opinion, after being a "seeker" for many years, is that most people who want out of any Christian religion is that they have been erroneously taught that God is a punishing God who is just searching for some transgression worthy of sending you to "hell." Forget that! God is Love; pure and simple. I suggest you read Huston Smith's book, "Religions of the World," which compares the major religions in existance, and have an open mind. There were religions in existence for thousands of years before Christianity -- it is not the only way. Also, many Christian religions are spiritual enough to know this, and not try to condemn people with other beliefs. Blessings to you and all.

I will say this, though I will get hammered for it: there really can't be a "true" athiest. Now, if you think you are one, then only the Holy Spirit will be able to take down the wall. But the fact that you are on here a lot, and I see you here a lot, shows me that if you were really an athiest, you wouldn't waste your time here. I don't believe in the Loch Ness monster, so why would I visit sites concerning it. If someone wants to believe in it, they can, I don't try to talk them out of it. But athiests try their hardest to get people to question God, and if he doesn't exist, why does he threaten people so? I am not afraid of anything that I don't think is real. If God wasn't real, then I wouldn't feel threatened. So why should someone who says they don't believe in him, question him, or people that do believe? Is it a game to try to get people to question God?
So, I will point you to just 2-3 verses in the bible, and you can read them at your leisure. Does this mean you will change your mind? Who knows? But it is a start.
I bet if you really prayed to him, even to question him, I am sure he would answer you, and something tells me that you have already prayed to him and now you are looking for some peace to his working in your life. God is real. Your life and your feelings at the moment you read this, or anyone else's answer who is really trying to help, will prove it, though you may not admit it.
Romans 1:18-21. That sort of explains it, in a nutshell. Take care!

That "nagging God feeling" might be something you want to listen to. But in answer to the question let's look at the Bible. Im not sure the chapter or verse but it does say that God will deal with your heart so to speak. That he will convict you, and you will hear his voice telling you to repent To ask for forgiveness and be made whole through him. But if you deny God repeatedly, he will eventually stop. When you stop hearing that little voice of God, you need to be worried, because he wont be with you anymore. Id rather have God, because he's there when no one else is.

I understand your question to mean that, although you consider yourself an atheist, you believed in God previously.
That nagging "God feeling" is the Holy Spirit calling to you, begging you to return to the only Way, Truth and Life that will give you eternal life. Don't ignore that feeling. Instead, ask the questions that the Spirit is prompting you to ask, so you can resolve this crisis of faith.

I didn't know it was a trap to believe in God. That's a new one. I have a sure fire remedy to get over that nagging God feeling. LISTEN TO GOD. Then He will stop nagging you. If God is nagging you its because He is calling you. He knows you by name. He is trying to get you to come to Him. Whether you want to admit it or not there is a God and He does speak to you constantly. Its up to you to listen and obey what He says.

Being an atheist means you don't believe in anything one way or another. For some reason, all religions have proven to you that they are either off-the-wall crazy, fundamentalists, or unworthy of your belief. Thus you believe in yourself and your own power of thought and you feel very comfortable trusting that. There is no nagging "God" feeling. Only nagging people telling you to believe in their "God".

If you are a true atheist, you sould not have any nagging God questions. If you don't belive in God then you don't. I don't have questions in my mind on weather or not I am right. I don't really care if I am right or not. It is just who I am. I am ok with being an atheist.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to listen to the nagging God feeling. Maybe someone is trying to tell you something.
