Why do we have to fight a war for the freedom of the Iraqi people, when other countries that are closer to our borders are poor countries and we do not fight for their freedom from oppression? Iraq is a country with fanatic religions that will never agree with one another no matter what we do for them. We should not be trying to heal their inner struggles that we do not even understand.

No war imposed from outside can give people the freedom in my personal view. It is like someone giving you your livelihood... it becomes a hand out, if you do not earn it. It is okay to assist those who are fighting for freedom. If anyone truly deserves freedom, it is the poor palestinians who have been abused and kicked around for more than fifty years and we have a lot of clout to give them freedom, as we are active participants in TAKING AWAY their freedom, as we provide a lot of aid to Israel, some of which is used to take their freedom.

Anyone with half a brain knows that freedom for Iraqis is just a political ploy, an excuse to do the dirty work of Israel. Plus, if Iraq did not have oil, we would let them die and rot like we do most in several conflicts in Africa, Asia and elsewhere.

That is my opinion on this issue.

After 9/11 there was not only a "perceived" threat, but an actual, deadly, and unprovoked action from an unknown enemy. That attack killed many innocent and uncommitted Americans and demonstrated American shock, awe, and reaction.
While I understand the religious antagonisms of the mid-east, the assault on 9/11 was a direct military action (and loss on our part) and was at our greatest (mightiest nation in the world) reputation.
Other countries do not confront us militarily, insult us in what we consider to be our greatest strength, and wounds our national pride.
Poorer countries do not threaten us; they boost our national pride because our (generous ?) humane contributions ease their poverty.
Recall an old political statement, "..millions for defense, but not a cent for tribute" (Was it because of Stephen Decauter ?)
The issue has been rephrased. Do we defend agains military action at our shores, or theirs??
