The easiest way to give tablet medicine to a dog is to open their mouth and insert as close to the back of their mouth as possible and then hold their mouth shut for a few seconds. This has always worked for me.

there are things called pill pockets available at pet stores that you can get, or you can try putting then inside a treat.
If you wanted to go the more difficult route, put your fingers on the sides of the dog's jaw and pinch inwards to open his mouth. Put the pill all the way and the back of the throat (which can be hard if the dog is struggling against you) and close the dog's mouth. It should be far enough back that the dog cannot get it back out. If you think he may be having difficulty swallowing it, rub his throat to get him to swallow.

Velveeta cheese! I like to think that it's a little better for them than hot dogs, but I've used those too. They also make a "pill pocket" now that is a treat with a hole in the middle to insert the pill and then give it to your pet like a regular treat.
Good Luck. Hope fluffy/fido feels better soon!

Start with the food technique, but if they get to the point where they eat everything and spit the pill back out, try this. Use one hand to open the mouth and tilt the head up and use your other hand to pop it in the back of the throat. If you get it back far enough you won't have a problem. If they spit it out, repeat and put it farther. It's really easy when you get the hang of it.

Cut a piece of cheese or hot dog, and with the point of the knife, dig out a tiny hole..slip the pill in the hole. give your dog a tiny piece without medicine, follow with the piece WITH the med, and quickly with a third peice without.

Sandwich the pill between two pieces of cheese, shove it inside a piece of hot dog or wrap it in lunch meat. If your dog is anything like mine, he/she will "hoover" it down so fast that they'll never know that there was a pill inside.
Good Luck! ; )

With my first dog I had to put the pill to the back of her throat then hold her mouth shut as I blew air into her nose and rubbed her throat until I felt her swollow several times.
With my present dog I just tell him it's pill time and he takes it right from my hand, chews it up and swollows it.

i have dogs that take medicine daily for asama. i found out threw trial and error that peanut butter is the way to go. its very sticky and very tasty. once your pet has had peanut butter your pet will be running to you wanting it even before you get the jar open.
