After painting my house, i have a couple gallons of used paint left over.. one in a large bucket with some water in it, the other a gallon of paint we mixed. The paint we mixed is a whole gallon of pink paint we just know we are never going to use. Is there a free/cheap way to get rid of paint without doing anything illegal or hazardous to the environment?

There are some charities that will accept used paint they mix it all together and use it to paint houses for poor people.

Let me guess...somebody comes to your house and picks up your trash for you. All you can really do is tightly seal the paint and dispose of it the same way you do anything else that isn't recyclable. And to ease your mind, paint is water soluble and won't hurt the environment.

I had this same problem. According the the Fire Chief in my town: fill the cans with kitty litter or saw dust to help dry them, and leave them open until dry. Then throw them in the trash. Yep, that's really what he said.

Usually you can let it dry completely and then dispose of it in your ordinary trash pick-up, chack with your haulers. Might be able to take it back to the paint store for disposal, check with them.

Offer the gallon free to someone, like on freecycle or something. There will be someone out there that will want it. I'm not sure about the other though.

Check with your local sanitation department. They usually have a hazardous waste day where you can take it there for free. You probably can also take it there pretty inexpensively. Just ask them.

Call or stop by your local paint shop or home improvement store. They should have your answer.

Yes, let it dry out.
If you want it to dry quicker, pour it out on LOTS of newspaper. More surafe area = quicker drying time. Then throw it in the trash.
