What can I do? They've lived together for 2 yrs but are now going after each other regularly. I have to solve problem or get rid of one (or more) dogs, and my kids love them.

Females are 9 and 2 respectively. They've both been seen by the vet within the last month. The fights are only escalating in frequency and bloodiness. I cannot let this continue. PetSmart trainer wants to see the dog I believe to be the aggressive (alpha) separately. My mother suggests dog psychic (I'm not kidding, although it was amusing.) I've been told they don't fight at all when I am not around.

Anytime the pack changes, the positions of the pack change. I don't know how old the females are, if they are related, if there are any medical conditions that might be underlying which you may not even be aware of, the sizes of the females, etc. There are many components that could be the cause, so I would suggest that you first have the females examined by a vet to make sure there are no medical conditions, including a thyroid panel which could cause aggression if off kilter. If that proves fine, then I would consult a dog trainer that specializes in aggression. You could check with the APDT for a referral in your area. Make sure to find a trainer who is positive, reward based, not one who uses punishments, choke or prong collars. That will only cause further aggression.

Just give them some time. With the addition of the third dog, they now have to figure out who's the "alpha" dog again.

We had the same problem. There's nothing you can do about it, just wait it out and they'll figure it out their new hierarchy soon enough.

Our dogs (2 female, 1 younger male) all get along now. The females still sometimes get a little jealous if the male is playing more with one then the other, but they figure it all out and we no longer have fights.

Dogs don't fight because of sex. It doesn't make any difference to them what sex they are. Either can be just as vicious and a female will fight a male. Just ask a vet if you don't believe me. There seems to be a territorial dispute here as the result of this puppy and it's not because he's male. Talk to a vet.

One of the females should go. They are fighting for the main female role in the pack.
