We bought a boat and the life jackets came with it. The life jackets are full of mildew and mold. Is there a way we can clean the mildew and mold off of them?

eewwww. I'd just toss them and buy new ones.

But probably X-14 or similar mold remover product you find in the bathroom cleanser area of grocery store.

You can try a mild solution of bleach, but if the mildew and mold are very bad, you might have to use a heavier solution, which could damage the floats. Another option is to scrub them with baking soda, which will take the mold off, and leave them in the sun until they are thoroughly dry. You probably already know how to prevent the mold and mildew -- hang the jackets up to dry after each use. If they are too badly affected, you may have to buy new ones. Bummer, but it's better to have something that you know you can rely on.

We use SimpleGreen. You can buy it at WalMart.. Good Stuff! Some staining may remain in the jackets if the mildew has been there for long. Have Fun!

If it's deep into the fibres of the material, you will never get it all out. If it's that bad, buy some new ones. They will probably be more comfortable anyway, the newer models coming out in the last couple of years are much better designs.
