Thats a really complicated question. There are some people out there who work and can't afford healthcare so is it fair to say that the rich can only afford it? I have to pay over $500 a month for basic health insurance which includes dental. Aren't teeth a part of your body? Why is there separate insurance for your teeth? Should it be that much? I don't think so. Why not use the money the government is pumping into an unjust war for healthcare for the poor. Or if you don't want to do that then some how make it affordable. They don't want to raise the minimum wage but they want you to pay an arm and a leg for insurance. That doesn't seem right. Do the politicians really need the pay raise they just gave themselves? No. But they got it. Why not take that money and put it into a program to help people who can't afford insurance. I don't want to hear that tax payers shouldn't have to pay for it. We shouldn't have to pay for their raises either but we do. So why not put the money in a program that will help people.

Sadly, little can be done until the Baby Boomers pass on. The weight of this generation will continue to harm the health care system for years to come.
Another problem is the emergency rooms in the US. They are required to provide service to anyone with or without insurance. This is what causes the insureds rates to increase. We provide free insurance to those who don't want to or cannot afford insurance. (Illegal imigrants fall into this catagory)
It isn't fair, but it's better than any other.

There is a crisis in that you've competition in the health insurance industry that redlines just like the automotive industry does. What I mean is that they attempt to measure risk vs reward when establishing policies and types of policies for particular groups and areas.
Despite having agreed upon a universal claim form for claim submissions insurance companies waste billions on administrative overhead in processing claims. Each company has it's own proprietary way of dealing with claims and that's the issue. It's not the medical field sticking it to you and I. It's the insurance companies wastefulness and inability to standardize platforms that causes the problems. Proven fact that standardization saves money...insurance companies refuse to do so and we pay the price.

It's funny to see how people from the US uses the word "American" to describe themselves...lol... In Spanish we do have a name for people from the US.."Estado Unidenses" which means people from "Estados Unidos" (United States) The rest of us Americans do have a name for example:
I am Peruvian because I come from Peru
People from Mexico: Mexicans
People from Cuba: Cubans, and so on

Healthcare is expensive. I don't think people should get it for free when us hard working people have to pay for it. I don't think that innocent children should have to suffer though. I don't know what the answer is but too many people are irresponsible and need to use birth control and condoms that are free at health clinics and it would be alot easier.

They could put caps on malpractice lawsuits so insurance and doctor visits were cheaper.

I think we should do what the Chinese do:
You pay your doctor all year long as long as you are healthy, but you stop paying him when you get sick.
