In Spain (where the oranges come from) marmelade is jam. They grow Seville oranges (which is what we make marmalade from) along the streets as ornamentals and nobody picks them. Apparently the only thing the Spaniards think they are good for is making explosives (!?!) ... it's supposed to be something in the skin!
I like all kinds of fruit preserve, myself - marmalade, jam, quince, strawberry ... I think I draw the line at cabbage, beetroot and carrot, though! Apparently, because Portugal is fond of carrot jam, the EEC had to classify carrots as a fruit. Yeah right!
I can't decide, either. If it's for breakfast, then marmalade, any other time, jam. I also like Marmite (but not on the same piece of toast as marmalade)

Jam - marmalade is just a very strange mixture of sweet and bitter. Plus there are these yucky orange bits in it. No! I love jam, jelly to be precise!
