Because theirs is not a "convert the masses" religion.

Pretty much explains the "nice people" part as well.

if you see, more and more christians in the western world are renouncing their faith in christianity and while some go on as atheist who believe in doing good then just blindly following the christian faith, while others become buddhists to acheive a more peaceful and meaningful life. The likes of Richard Gere and many more stars chose to believe in Buddhism because of Buddhist's non agressive, non violent way of life fascinated many people to be Buddhists. In Australia 1 out of 10 Aussies are Buddhists already and the numbers increase day by day. So look around or ask around for the nearest Buddhist centre or temple, you would be surprised that there is one or more already in your neighborhood. Be well and Happy.

There are more it's just Christians don't realize they have become Buddhists. Have you ever read a Christian book these days. 80% of it is Buddhist philosophy and they just throw the words God and Jesus in there to occasionally remind you they're talking about Christianity.

Well, China kinda invaded Tibet and took it over. The Chinese government now controls who and when can join as a Monk or Nun. Not to mention they forced a lot of the Monks out of the country. And they sterilize Tibetian woman. And they rape the nuns, which breaks their vows and they can no longer be nuns.

There are more of them. Unlike the christian faith it is not one of their beliefs that they need to convert everyone else or share the word so to speak. They also don't all wear the monks robes etc. So they don't get in your frame of consciousness as much because they don't believe they have to talk about what they believe, they believe they show it by example.
