Almost lost my very spoiled, husky/sheppard mix last year when we found out he was alergic to bees. The alergy is to the point were we carry and eppy pen and emergency meds. Feeling scared with summer here, has anyone had a pet suffer from something like this? How do you handle the summer with your pet?

In the South if the US you also have to worry about fire ants. If your pet is allergic to bees, the toxin in fire ants will react the same way.

My dog has pollen allergies. Starting the last week of February until mid-April, there is something that blooms where I live that turns him into a 50 pound furry itch. I start him on Benedryl (25 mg for every 25 pounds of body weight) 3 times a day late in February...and end up doing allergy specific shampoos/conditioners on him to keep him from going nuts.

It is not a fun time.

I have a pointer mix that ended up in the emergency vet a couple years ago bc she swallowed a bee. She had a really bad reaction and had a fever of 104.7!!! It's really scary and I have to watch her closely now to make sure when she is out she doesnt eat any bugs or get stung. We keep her away from bees as best we can but really just like with kids there are no guarantees. I say dont be so paranoid and just keep the eppy pen with you when you go anywhere with your pooch. Hope this helped.

my dog is allergic to a type of grass that grows in our yard. unfortunately, our yard has been seeded about five times in the past, so there are several varieties growing and we cannot pinpoint which one he is allergic to. so i have to wash him with a special allergy care shampoo once a week and apply cream to his face. it is sad when your pet has an allergy but it is well worth the care of it since they can be our best friends.
