you can buy snake repelant at most garden centers. you can also buy coyote urine at a garden center which freaks out most animals (including me).

I have always heard if you lay a rope on the ground, they will not cross over it. Don't know if that works but you could try surrounding your camp area with a thick rope.

Oddly enough..human urine will do the trick..simply collect as much as you can..and empty the contents in a circle all around your camp area...
We boys just do it as it comes tho...
