I am currently registered as a Democrat, though I'm considering changing my affiliation to independent instead.
I registered to vote a couple years ago so that I could vote against Bush (i.e. for Kerry) in the last presidential election, and at that time, I agreed with most of the stances taken by the Democratic party.
In December, however, I became a Christian and had to rethink some of my beliefs, especially those that conflicted with Christianity. I read a book called God's Politics by Jim Wallis and completely agree with his assertion that we need a new party. Neither one is really cutting it at all anymore. If I had to choose between the two major parties, I'd choose Democrats hands-down because they're less offensive to me, but I have major issues with both sides.
Thus my consideration of switching to Independent. I'm frustrated with the direction this country is taking and the actions - or lack thereof! - by the Republicans and Democrats alike. That being said, I still really really dislike the Bush administration and will never regret my decision to vote against him, and I most likely will never vote Republican. Also, despite the fact that I'm a Christian, I have a very strong distaste for the Religious Right. They truly have hijacked Christianity, and our government along with it. It's beyond absurd.
Anyways, I think I've more than answered your question...I really, really, really wish more people cared enough - and were confident enough that they really could make a difference - to band together and help form a tripartisan system, at the very least. This black or white, diametrically opposed and equally screwed up selection of choices is just ridiculous...

I am an independent conservative.
Independent because I don't agree with complete ideology of any political party (Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, etc.) I also like to be free to vote for whoever I feel is best choice in a given election.
Conservative because this is the ideology which encompasses the largest number of my views, although I do believe there are worthy points on the Liberal side also. Here again I prefer to think for myself and remain free to choose what best represents my views on a particular issue.

I signed up in the late 80's as a Republican. I wanted to be different from my parents, I was against a lot of social programs, I didn't want to pay more taxes, and etc.
Now I am still registered Republican, but I don't vote with them. I think their pro-life, anti gay stance is ignorant. I still don't like paying more taxes though.
I wish there was a "voters" party. The party could be people who don't want to be affiliated with established parties(Republicans, Democrats, Reform, Greens, Liberatarians, Independents, etc....). They could just be people who vote. They wouldn't be limited to one set of candidates in a primary election. Unfortunately they would get the most candidate junk mail.

I do not belong to any party because I don't think any party has all the right answers. I am tired of the bickering and pointing of fingers across the isle. I remember when politicians from all partys actually worked together and made ususally reasonable compromises and got decent legislation out. Now they just try to cover their bums and pass stupid laws to give the appearance they are doing something.

I'm an independent because I like to be able to vote for the party that most closely shares my views of the issues at hand.

they all suck! it does not matter what party there is there will always be corruption - always be evil. politicians are modern day priests from Europe. they get into power by lies manipulation and money. I'm going to start a new party called Mange.Com. its where you get mange in vials and if people dont vote for you you spread mange at strip joints, casinos and corners of downtown where the ho work.

That's a very good question, although I'm sure you'll get better answers if you place it in the Politics section rather than the Religion one.

My reasons for being "other" is that, here in Canada, there are no political parties with any of these names.

Jim,
This is not the site for a political question. Why are you drawn to this site? Maybe God drawing you to HIM?
