Either is fine. Just put them in an airtight container that is not too big and layer them with a piece of wax paper or a paper towel in between each layer and freeze them. I bake dozens upon dozens of cookies at Christmas time. I start the day after Thanksgiving and have a freezer full. Just pull them out a couple of hours before you want to eat them.

It depends on your recipe. My chocolate chip cookies have a lot of brown sugar, and that helps to keep them fresh. You can substitute honey for part of the white sugar, and that will keep cookies chewy, but if you haven't done this before, don't do it for cookies that you are taking to an event. Experiment to make sure you like them that way.
Alton Brown from Food TV has the best chewy chocolate chip cookie recipe I've ever tried. See link below...
If your chocolate chip recipe doesn't have brown sugar (or not that much), you can swap brown for white sugar equally, but don't use 100% brown sugar. A 3 to 1 ratio is as far as you should go. So, if you need one cup of sugar, use 3/4 brown and 1/4 white. If that's too hard to figure out, just go 50/50.

Chocolate chip seems to stay moister longer than sugar cookies and everyone likes a soft cookie not a hard one.

If you put them in an ait tight container they would both be fine as they are essentially the same cookie (flour and sugar and a binder) . However, if you just freeze them (or any cookie for that matter) and take them out the day before, they will be as good as if you baked them that day. Cookies in the freezer last for months.

Peanut butter cookies stay fresh the longest followed by sugar, oatmeal, then chocolate chip.

I would assume sugar. But I will give some advice. If your cookies start to get hard, add a slice of bread and throw them in a zip lock back over night. Somehow they get soft again....

Sugar...a hint, try placing a piece of bread in with the cookies, off to the side...the bread should absorb the staleness first!

Either one should stay fresh if you keep them in airtight container. Or you could freeze them and take them out the day before your event. Good luck!
