We are flying down to Florida with our 10 month old son and 6 year old daughter. We have never flown with kids before. I have things that my daughter can do..Video Now player, CD player, coloring, but I need ideas for my 10 month old son. The drive to the airport is about 45 minutes so he'll probably sleep then and he doesn't like to sit still very long while awake. It is a direct 2 1/2 hour flight and I'm really not sure how to keep him busy.

Buy one of those stroller activity toys that has a variety of things to do on them. Bring pop up books, finger foods, a small light up play talking telephone,,,,
I would provide new toys, and a couple of their favorites.

They don't have to stay buckled the whole flight,,so you can play w/ them in your lap,,and stand between you in the seat,,and talk to the passenger behind you if you see that they want to visit. ( i heard somethign about their ears popping,,,either you give them a bottle, pacifier on take off or you don't...you need to find out.. and also...I am not telling you to "drug' your child by any means...
but bring a tylenol and give them incase their ears do hurt,, and that way..you are taking care of that problem and also making them sleepy on the other hand.

You will see that most passengers are sleeping....it is because they took Dramine..that makes you sleepy.

The trip to Florida will have a lot of children on it...so your won't be the only one,,,,and if it is a big jet,,it will have a large tv screen.

Have fun!

Don't worry too much about it, either he will be so tired from the whole experience that he will doze off, or he is so excited that everything will get his attention and he will keep himself and the rest of the passengers entertained! It's only 2,5 hours, so you could try to keep him entertained with books (the sturdy ones with little "surprise" flaps for example. The ones with buttons that make noises would be a big hit, but will certainly annoy the other passengers....), a mini version of the bead frame (the funny shaped thick wires with beads on them that they can move to the other side) and other toys that are small and stationary but can be manipulated. It doesn't really matter if he officially is too young for the toy (as long as it is safe!), but if it gets his attention and keeps him busy for a while it does the trick.

Don't forget to bring something for both kids to suck on: a sweetie or lollipop for the 6-year old, a bottle or perhaps even a pacifier/dummy for the little one. Let them use it at take-off and landing as it will prevent them to get earache!

Choosing the Perfect Seat

There is a lot to be said for smart seat selection, and that also applies to travel with babies and older children. Get thee to a bulkhead seat, mom and dad! For the uninitiated, the much-coveted bulkhead seats are the ones in the first row of the economy class. Sit there with that hyperactive five-year-old, and you won’t have to worry that little Timmy will kick the seat in front of him, because there is no seat in front of you. Another advantage to this seat is the close proximity to the restrooms and the front exits. Your children will not have the opportunity to whine and moan while waiting to get off the plane at the end of your flight.

I seen a lady bring puppets, she entertained her kid through a 4 hour flight with that. Actually she entertained me, cause I sat there watching too. JUst my suggestion.

Dope him up good so he sleeps on the plane. Nothing more irritating than to listen to a cranky, crying kid during a flight.
