we were given revelation to help tell us of what could happen. What we should understand from it is that it is a theory not a fact.

If you are referring to the book of Revelation, it was given as an encouragment; "Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give you a crown of life" (Revelation 2:10).

If you mean all that was revealed, ie., the Bible, it was given so that we could know God's will and do it (Ecclesiastes 12:13).

Revelation is a (Rev.1:1)"revealing what will happen in the last days". It gives us insight on how we should live as warns us of the terrible sins we are doing as diasasters that are headed in our way if we disobey. If we turn from our wickedness; there will be a great reward(only those that don't worship the beast and his image or receive the Beast's Mark) for us in the kingdom of Heaven on earth(Dan.7:27; Rev.5:10) as in the future kingdom that's coming out of heaven(Rev.21 & 22).

There is nothing to understand except that Christians will believe any old thing they read, even a book full of hallucinatory dream-images written by someone who was either on drugs, or had a really wild imagination. The fact that everyone who writes about this book has a vastly different interpretation, should tell you that it has whatever meaning you give it...and thus, it has no real meaning at all.

Why?

A) Because although logic can figure out there IS a God, nothing and no one can tell us what KIND of a God He is except He Himself.

B) Because He loves us and wants us to love Him back and how can you love Somone you don't know at all.

What should we understand from revelation?

A) That God so loved the world (that means us, too) that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

B) That we are to Love the Lord our God with all our hearts, all our mind, all our spirit, all our strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves (which presupposes that we know we are to love OURSELVES).

C) That the way to God and His promise of life eternal is through Jesus, the Christ, the Son of the Living God.

Revelation means to reveal. It was given to us to reveal what was to be in the last days so we could be ready to meet our maker. What we should understand is that time is short and we need to be ready for Jesus to come back.

It is between fifty and sixty years since I read it [the Apocalypse], and I then considered it merely the ravings of a maniac, no more worthy nor capable of explanation than the incoherences of our own nightly dreams.

You should understand that it is not a revelation at all and ignore it just as you would ignore anyone who told you utter nonsense.
