My answer to my own question would have to be this: I'm not thrilled about them listening to my calls, but if they are, I know that I have nothing to hide. I would rather put up with them listening to me yak on the phone, than have to put up with watching another aftermath of a terrorist attack. If they're able to intercept terrorist phone calls, they can go right ahead and listen.

I am totally against it.

It is spying on the American people. One less civil right. It is absplute cowardice and unpatriotic to give up ANY civil liberties for ANY reason.

I am totally against it if they do so without warrants. I am sorry but as Law Enforcement we can not go around listening in on conversations without warrants so why should they be able to. I understand the need for National Security, but this is way beyond that. I have nothing to hide, but I still feel it is wrong. And, even if they hear something this time, will they be able to stop another 9/11 from happening? Probably not...

There's a bigger question than national security here.

If you want my opinion about the constitutional issue, I don't want "the government" listening to any citizens conversations without court approval. There is a reason that the framers of the constitution made separation of powers. In this issue the executive branch chose to ignore the other branches of government and "listen in" to a few million phone calls to promote national security. We are allowed due process and secure from undue search and seizure, the judicial branch protects the oversees the protection of those rights.

If you want my opinion about privacy issues, If we allow the NSA to arbitrarily listen to private phone calls, why not let them intercept our e-mail or IM at random. Further lets allow the NSA to listen in to our conversations at work, in our cars, our homes and especially our bedrooms.

To paraphrase B. Franklin...to give up liberty to gain security, you end up with no liberty and no security

i do not comprehend why each individual is getting so disillusioned over this... they have been tapping out telephone demands years. this is no longer that human beings pay interest to each verbal replace, yet that if you're saying certain key terms... inspite of that is they're searching for for for, like "bomb", or some chemical call that is going right into a bomb, or inspite of... then that triggers a gadget over in New Mexico or Arizona everywhere that is and it archives the verbal replace and someone listens to it to work out no matter if that is a real possibility or no longer... this is unlike even as your having telephone sex or speaking on your kinfolk about inspite of... or maybe company calls are being monitored... it really is until eventually you're speaking about bringing unlawful components over the border or assassinating the president or blowing up a public construction. besides, inspite of in case you've been discussing this kind of aspect, who cares who listens to it and determines that that is possibility free... which that is maximum in all chance. If no longer.. .would not you want someone to seize those human beings earlier they do something terrible? in my opinion, i'd truly they filter out some thousands calls which have set off words and probably prevent one terrible aspect from occurring, than having the relax of understanding they're going to not in any respect pay interest to a decision (which will no longer be comforting to me)... an standard citizen will likely not in any respect have a decision overheard besides... each individual is overreacting.

Your question is wrong to begin with, The were not tapping the calls they were monitoring the pattern of calls, looking at the numbers not the conversations. Looking at your phone bill.

The choice isn't between them listening in on your phonecalls and another terrorist attack. They're listening in without FISA court orders (illegally/unConstitutionally), all they'd need is to PROVE they need that wiretap to get it. There's no need to wiretap EVERYONE, unless they're implementing a police state.

They are not listening to your phone calls. They are tracking your phone calls by putting together lists of phone numbers you call or get calls from.
