Of anything that counteracts the effects of radiation? Supplements, skin cremes, etc...other than what the doctor routinely gives you? (This is for my friend. He has 3 more treatments to go and he is beginning to fry.)

Thank you all every single one of you, these are all excellent suggestions. I forgot about Bag Balm. I used to use that when my fingers got sore from sewing. (Then I played bass and that toughened them up) I can't pick an answer here, I'll leave it to vote I guess. Again, Thanks!

Nothing 'counteracts' the effects of radiotherapy but if his skin is red, sore (I take it this is what you meant with the word fry) and not broken then aqueous cream (kept in the fridge, brought from any chemist) can help to ease the pain as can taking normal pain killers. There are creams that are better than this but they all contain metals and so cannot be used until after he has finished his treatment. His doctor can prescribe these. He can also seek the advice of the radiographers giving him his treatment. Wearing cotton next to his skin, keeping cool in front of a fan and ensuring that he drinks plenty of water will all help him feel better but unfortunately the reaction won't start to recede until at least 2 weeks after the end of his treatment.

Hi friend of cancer patient, how are you, rough road he's on.I've lost my mother and brother to cancer and I myself have been through treatments, and I'm in remission. There is nothing more you can do,just keep the area moist with a good lotion.Kerry is a good one on ecurine cream which you can get over the counter.I was with my brother during his radiation treatments,I took him every visit, then one day the Dr.fit his head with this cage for his next treatment and no keep in mind there was no cure for my brother and all the treatment was just prolonging the obvious,so I spoke up and that day was his last radiation treatment, which was for his brain,it had spread that far, with no cure in sight and the radiation was just burning up what good brain cells my brother had left.We his son and I took him home that day and he never had another sticking radiation treatment again. He died.I miss him everyday. He was my brother and my best friend. My Mom died before him two years.Just make sure the treatment is doing some good.Ask the Dr.,they won't tell you unless you ask. They are very cold hearted Dr's,if they weren't they would not be able to do their job.Just keep your friend comfortable and try to keep their spirits up,that is a hard thing to do when you are the primary care giver, find out if the treatments are stoping the cancer or just prolonging things,I hope and pray your friend can beat this thing I did it,keep the faith!

There is a balm that comes in a metal tin. Dairy farmers use it on cows teats (yes, this is real) and it works wonders for radiation and chemo therapy patients.

I just called my pharmacist, because they carry it, and got the name of it. It's called Bag Balm. It does come in the metal can and inside the can is a plastic bag that has the balm in there.

It is very greasy; however, it works wonders! I don't know what area you live in, but call around to find it. I can't stress how much this really helps.

Again, it's called Bag Balm.

Good luck to your friend and bless you for looking into this for him! You're in my prayers!

I fried big time with my radiation too. I got blisters, then they popped, then they bled....it was horrible. The only thing that gave me relief was a product called Xeroform Gauze Strips. They are treated with petroleum jelly and some type of numbing agent. I would feel relief instantly. Make sure that your friend is not putting on any product with alcohol in it...I learned that the hard way...it's not so nice on open wounds.

I got Xeroform from Mayo clinic, but recently I saw a local drug store had them. I have also seen them on eBay. Good luck to you friend!

nicely i am going to positioned it this way i'm a Scorpio and that i comprehend for certain Cancers are not combatants, they are not even the battling type so as that's no project. A maximum cancers vs. Scorpio, i am going to sense even extra undesirable for the most cancers. I advise, a Scorpio comprehend it may wipe maximum cancers off the board and Cancers are careless and under no circumstances very attentive to their ecosystem, do not have perception or mind so yeah that's yet another excuse to sense sorry for them. they provide up too somewhat.

Goji is one of the only plant species on earth that contains the anti-cancer mineral germanium. Its antioxidants and unique polysaccharides can halt the genetic mutations that can lead to cancer.
Once cancer has developed, it is important to note that goji has also been shown to enhance the effects of radiation in combating cancer, allowing a lower dose to be used. Other research indicates that goji can protect against some of the noxious side effects of chemotherapy and radiation. In addition, patients receiving a cancer drug together with goji exhibited response rates up to 250 percent better than those obtained by the drug alone. These advanced cancer patients experienced amazing regressions of malignant melanoma, renal cell carcinoma, colorectal carcinoma, lung cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and malignant hydrothorax. Remission of cancers in patients treated with goji lasted significantly longer than those treated without goji.
For cancer management- 4 to 8 oz daily, taken with meals.

They usually give a good cream. If you are too red they will stop treatments for awhile.
