I have very long hair, and was wondering if I am being snickered about behind my back. I had highlights put in, and it seemed so damaged. I want to get highlights again, but find it hard to trust anyone. And it is expensive.

boy can I relate! I'm in my 40's also and cut my hair short a few yrs. back and still miss it. If your hair is not healthy why not take 4inches off at least and hold off on getting the highlights for a bit, like give your hair a chance to rest. With a good cut long hair on a 40ish yr old is great.....and yes they are snickering but only cause they wish it was them with hair like yours!

It is expensive and if you have a bad past with the hair dresser then its gonna be hard to trust someone again..

But hair color is pick on what would look good on the person and the hair style/cut is done to flatter your face shape and body.. But if you wanna get highlights again.. you can have conditioning treatments down after for a few weeks.. and use shampoos and conditioners that are for your type of hair, that should help with it looking like its dry and brittle..just make sure the person has a valid license..

I prefer long hair. You should do what your heart tells you to do. The last thing to worry about is what people say behind your back. That is a teenage girl thing. I also prefer women with natural high lights that you get from sun exposure and the use of mild bleaching products like Sun-In. Even gray can blend in to highlights done this way and your hair will be undamaged.

You notice that almost every celebrity over the age of 40 has long hair now? It can still look good, you just have to take good care of it. Also, I would say wear it no longer than about 6 inches past your shoulder, otherwise it just looks out of date, very 1970's, hippie girl, which would not be cool! Also, get some layers put in, again to avoid the one length, hippie girl look. I think you should also avoid bangs. If you have them already, let them grow out, into long layers.
Get a good stylist to give you some color advice. Unfortunately long hair is more expensive, because you have to put more effort, time and money into keeping it looking good.

If you keep long hair trimmed on a regular basis, it will be more healthy looking. I think long hair on a 44 yr old is okay.

I think it's okay. I have read that older women should wear their hair short because it makes them look younger. I think this is true. I personally like long hair.

if you like the long hair and like it... keep it. It doesn't really matter what other people think. I think it's awesome that you have long hair... seems like anyone over 40 has thier hair short. hahaha. :o)

If you see someone with hair you like ask where they got theirs done. That's the problem with people, they sometimes let what others think rule them. Honey, if you like your hair forget everyone else!

I read somewhere that only those 18 years and younger should have long hair below their collarbones.
