We have a new pup that was a stray. He is small and looks like a jack russell except for his legs are slightly longer than a long legged jack and he is all brown with white on his face. He has dew claws on his rear legs and my jack russells don't. Maybe if rear dew claws are breed specific we can get a hint to what breed/breeds he is.

There are many breeds that can have rear dewclaws occur. Many mixed breeds have them. There are some breeds like the Briard and the Great Pyr that the standard states MUST have them. In the Pyr, they are double rear dewclaws.
In other breeds, they are removed on the rear legs in they have them. Front dewclaws are removed on some breeds, especially those getting tails docked. Other breeds usually leave them. I have Newfies and we leave the front dewclaws on, but if they had rear dewclaws, they would be removed at 3-5 days old.

It would not really be accurate to determine what breed he is just on rear dewclaws.

Strange you must ask this question. I are living in Egypt and feature a baladi puppy, that's an ex avenue puppy , She used to be rescued, introduced again to well being, and we followed her. She has a again dew claw, just one, however I have on no account obvious a puppy with this both. Because of the combination down the years your vet would very good be proper.

Boxers typically have declaws but not always. Many mixed breeds also have declaws. Really there aren't specific breeds that have dewclaws. Many times breeders have dewclaws removed if they have a litter of puppies w/declaws. It is best to have declaws removed when the puppies are less than one week old!!

My mother-in-law had a litter of Mini-Schnauzers and some had dewclaws on the back.

No,though rear dews are REQUIRED on the G.Pyr (& Briard?). You have a MUTT.
