I was watching Animal Planet this afternoon about ASPCA Animal Rescue. The officers took a dog to the animal hospital after suffering from a broken leg. They took care of the dog and all and the dog is okay now after 1.5 month of rehabilatation or something.

Now, my question is.....the dog was wearing some kind of a really big funnel on its neck. I was wondering what's that for?
Thanks!

They are called e-collars because the resemble the giant collars and ruffs of the Elizabethan era. The aim of the funnel is to protect the wound or whatever so the dog cannot reach it.

it is like a sling for humans...this kind of keeps the arm from moving and getting hurt even more

then funnel ( cone ) goes over the dog's head and around the dog's neck so the dog can not bite any part of his body...this lets the problem area heal..

good luck

The funnel is used to keep the dog from biting at the wound or the skin irritation or bandage or whatever.

They put the funnel around an animal's neck so that they cannot bother their wound. The funnel will not allow them to lick or otherwise bother whatever is wounded.

That is kept on a dog for a period of time so he leaves the wounded area alone :)

They can still eat and drink with it on and most dogs have that on when they get neutered or spayed.

the funnel stops the dog from licking or biting injured or infected areas on its body.

It's the dreaded cone. It's to keep the dog from chewing on the wound.
