If you don't have any spyware/malware/adware detection programs installed at the moment that clean your computer of things like this...you need to acquire them. Keep them on your machine, allow them to update when necessary and have them scheduled to run at a time of day that doesn't impose on your computer useage i.e. 4:00 a.m.

The following are some of the recommended ones to use...and most are free:

http://spywarebot.com/?hop=rs2005&p=1@gid=1069819071 (free version)

http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/downloads/adware_spyware_software/ (a good listing of numerous programs that will assist you in cleaning your pc...you need only one good adware, spyware program that is capable of detecting trojans, worms, malware etc as well. I have 3 separate ones on my computer (Spybot Search and Destroy, Adaware, Spywarebot) as well as a good Anti virus program.

Another program to obtain is Registry Cleaner,

http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/ Registry Mechanic

http://www.freeregistryfix.com/ (I've used this one and it does find a good number of errors however I recommend you do a back up before using any registry cleaning program. If it removes items that your system actually needs, i.e you run an external hard drive in addition to your internal one, it could remove information from the registry that allows you to operate the drive or files on that drive, correctly.

Always, always, always .... back up your data :) Windows has a back up utility under start/Programs/accessories/System Tools/Backup. Easy to use and so far it has worked well for me.

This will get you started....do a scan with the programs you choose (you'll likely catch those stupid tool bars immediately but let the scans complete fully), then allow the programs to delete the nasties after you have viewed all of the reports.

Then close down your computer, start it again but this time go into safe mode (F8 on most desktops, F2 possibly on some laptops) you may have to hold it down a few seconds.

In safe mode you don't have any periperhal access ie internet connection. However, you have full use of the spyware programs. Run these again completely as more nasties might be caught. This is allowing you to do a deeper scan on your system.

Once all is finished reboot again by shutting down completely waiting a few seconds then starting back up. Your system should be much quicker. If it still lags and doesn't respond correctly, you may have a fan problem for your cpu...check to be sure your system isn't gettin g hot, particularly if a laptop. Cooling the system will improve performance immensely. (My laptop just went through that and until I can get the fan replaced I've been using a regular fan...machine goes better than when it was first purchased :)

Good luck with this ... and sorry, I do like to talk :)

PS Post further up, agree totally...get Firefox or Opera at the least (Mozilla actually recommends them over IE). Popups/nasties...reduced quite a bit not to mention these are completely customizable and faster.

Spyware will download tool bars into your home page. Buy the program, Webroot Spy Sweeper, about $40.00 +/-. After you install the program from the CD, you will have the option to included 'trusted' sources. All other sources will be blocked providing you have setup the program to run in background on computer start-up. Good Luck.

Use spybot, adaware, and other tools to remove the spyware on your system. Once you have it cleaned, install spyware blaster (better) or MS defender to prevent future infestation.

Go to download.com or tucows.com and get you some sort of anti-spyware tool. Some of them have a feature where it will alert you when some program is trying to hijack your browser.

Get Firefox. Its a better browser that allows you to customize "Themes" and "Extensions." Firefox is also safer and more customizable than IE (Internet Explorer).
