In Joshua 10, the Bible tells the story of the day when the sun--and time--stopped. The Israelites were fighting the Amorites in Canaan. During the battle, Joshua prayed for the sun and moon to stop, so he would have extra daylight to finish the task. Scripture records that this prayer was answered: The sun "delayed going down about a full day" (v. 13).

Why don't Joshua prayed for Earth to stop its rotating instead of sun and moon to stop?

Hope my questions will not provoke somebody and I am also a Christian who loves Jesus Christ and his thoughts, but I am confused with some of the Old Testaments Scriptures.

Because the people who invented the bible believe God's knowledge was as limited as theirs.

Why do you insist on being a nimrod? EVEN TODAY! EVEN SCIENTISTS WHO KNOW THE EARTH ROTATES Still refer casually to SUN UP and SUN DOWN as if the Sun moves around the earth even though they know better. So why don't scientists and school teachers and others use a more scientific approach? BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT IT IS A FIGURE OF SPEECH!

ENOCH - the seventh from Adam spoke of the planets and their orbital pathways and such - something the flat earth early churches objected to and did not allow into the Biblical canon.

The Bible is not intended to be a Scientific Journal. Understand? It not a book about Insects nor a book about Social Studies but focuses on the arena intended - THE MIDDLE EAST - Its History and Destiny. Yeah it has prophecy concerning the world too - but events center from the middle east - and Israel at its heart

Jesus is coming soon and there is NO TIME for these silly maniacle games people play like you are. It is time to either get in With Jesus or get out of the way - he's coming and all the non sense in this world, all of the arguing and challenging will not change that fact.

Joshua probably had no concept of the world rotating as opposed to the "sun and moon moving around the Earth. The really cool thing about this is that even though Josh had no modern concept of science and his request was scientifically incorrect, God still new what he meant in his heart and answered his prayer. God still does this for us today. When we seek his will, he will honor our requests even if they don't make "scientific" sense.

It may very well be that he stoped the earth from rotating it doesn't say how he did it just that he did. I sometomes get caught up in a old testiment question and sometimes there just is not a anwser. But I would have to say that he did stp the earths rotation

maybe the earth did stop rotating-he may not have understood that the earth rotates around the sun. The Holy Spirit inspired authors of the Bible prob didn't have a lot of astronomy background

Back in those days, everyone thought the Earth was the center of the universe, and everything revolved around it. Of course, some people still feel that way today.

Actually, it was the earth that stood still the Sun and the moon aren't the ones, but it's funny how we have leap year where a day is added to our calender.

Because the people who wrote about Joshua, and probably Joshua himself, were unsophisticated Bronze Age barbarians when it came to understanding astronomical science.
