I have a family of 10 people. 2 adults and 8 children ages from 10 years to 3 months. I need some receipts that are quick easy and won't put a huge dent in our grocery bill to feed all of us except the 3 month old twins.

Shepherd's Pie Recipe

3 lbs lean ground beef
5 lbs potatoes
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
3 tablespoons Miracle Whip
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup milk
1 large onion, chopped
3 garlic cloves, crushed
3-5 tablespoons barbecue sauce or your favorite steak sauce
12 ounces frozen corn

25-30 servings 2 casseroles

Brown ground beef.
Add onion, garlic, frozen corn, barbeque sauce or steak sauces, and any seasonings you like to the ground beef and continue cooking on low until all is warmed. Cook and mash potatoes, adding the olive oil, milk, and miracle whip (or cream cheese if you like). Spoon the ground beef mixture into a large casserole dish and cover with mashed potatoes. This recipe usually makes enough for 2 casserole dishes. Sprinkle cheddar cheese over the top. Put in warm oven and cook at 350 for approximately 30-45 minutes, until cheese is browned. Let cool for 15 minutes and enjoy.

Open faced hamburgers are a nice change from regular.

Take ground beef (not sure how much for 10 people), mix with seasonings, chopped onions and shredded cheese. Make patties very, very thin and about 1/2 inch larger than the bun. Place on bun (top or bottom doesn't matter but don't put other part of bun on). Broil until done, but watch because if patties are too thick, bun will burn before meat is done. Serve with chips, fries, whatever. For some reason they taste different from regular burgers so my family loves them

Taco casserole.
Again, enough ground beef for all of you. Brown with 2-3 packages of taco seasoning. Spread in casserole dish and top in layers with (1) salsa (hotness depends on you), (2) sour cream, (3), shredded cheese, (4) Tostitos restaurant style chips, (5) more salsa and finally more cheese. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes (or until bubbly) and serve.

I have some more but can't remember the ingredients so I'll send them later.

Spaghetti goes far... Do the one pot style. Cook your noodles in a large pot. Brown the ground beef in a skillet and drain. Once the noodles are done. Add a can of tomato sauce and a can of tomato paste. Then add the meat. You now have a simple and cheap one pot meal that will feed plenty.

You can also use chicken or ground turkey.

Then there is always a couple of boxes of Hamburger or Yuna Helper.

Also you can buy bags of chicken quarters at your local grocery store. They sometimes have really good sales on these piece and you can bake, grill or fry them. I've seen them on sale as low as 30 cents per pound.

I hope this help.

Yes, this is another SIL issue. The usual pettiness that somehow goes with those relationships, and trickles down to your kids. Everyone would be better off just agreeing not to exchange gifts for b-days and holidays. You are never going to be able to convince her to give your kids "good" presents. Remember, your parents are her in-laws, so there is plenty to find things to be jealous about. Your kids and her kids are all competing for the same source of attention and granny's gifts. Maybe she thinks your parents do more than enough for you, that she doesn't need to. Yes, it is likely men / your brother is clueless on this. The only reason these events even occur is b/c of the women in the family. If the women agree to do nothing, nothing would get done. Either way, she's clearly not thinking about you or your kids, so agree going forward to do nothing. Attend the parties, enjoy the food, and forget the gifts. She'll likely be relieved to not have to shop for your kids at the check-out counter.

Wow, you must be busy!!! I would say lots of chicken pieces, just to throw in the oven to bake, along with baked potatoes. Spaghetti is always easy to make, and there are just tons of casserole recipes. Or start a roast with vegetables, and potatoes in the crock-pot in the morning. Of course there is always the turkey, which will last for quite a while, and then you have bones for lots of soup

One of my quick, easy, and inexpensive favorites is tuna casserole. All you need is a couple cans of tuna fish, a couple cans of cream of mushroom soup, a big bag of noodles, and some cheese to top it off if you like. First off, boil the noodles until they are tender. Drain the noodles and put them in a casserole dish. Then you mix the tuna and cream of mushroom soup in with the noodles, and top with cheese if you like, then place the dish in the oven on 350 degrees for about 10 minutes or until warm and serve.

My mother had hundreds. Spaghetti was a favorite. With meatballs or meat sauce when we could afford meat, with canned mushrooms when we couldn't. She made her own sauce from canned tomatos, garlic and onions, simmered for a couple of hours.

Homemade macaroni, cheese and ham, baked.
Scalloped potatos and ham
Tuna and rice casserole (same as with noodles, but lot less slimy.)

Mom never served bread with our meals unless we had soup, so we never got used to it.
