Is there an age range that I should only chat with. In a time where the young are looking older, I always feel a bit weird if I chat with anyone under 21.

Well, it depends on what you mean by chatting. If your intentions are good you should be able to chat with anyone. If not, then stick to people in your age group

Go with your first instincts. You said that it feels weird if you chat with anyone under 21--that may be a sign that, deep down, you already know the answer to your question. If I were you, I would stick to chatting with people in their 20s. Any younger, and you would not only be dangerously close to breaking the law, but also you would soon find that you have absolutely nothing in common with a teenager; the age difference would be so great that there is no way that the two of you could relate to each other (no matter how "cute" the other person is!).

Sure people always feel a little weird talking out of a certain age range and considering the new technology that parents are using you might get labeled before you even start speaking. When speaking to anyone from 14 to 57 I would clearly state your intention in the process and let it be known what you do and do not want to talk about it may seem a little cheesy but it will delete any misunderstandings

Well, it depends what you're chatting about. I don't think there's anything wrong with chatting with a 14 yr old if you stay away from topics like sex, etc.
oh... maybe I'm too old fashioned, maybe these days chatting means "sex talk"...
I'm 37, and I've basically lost touch with the younger generation, so there's not much for me to chat about with a teenager, except when they need advice maybe about a career or school, but other people have stayed in touch and understand young people better and there's nothing wrong with being there for a young person to talk to if they need to talk.

Well, it depends on what you like to chat about, exactly. If you don't know anything about the persons age or anything unless they clearly tell you they're around your age, don't get into any... you know... discussions that may be innapropriate because we all know that minors nowadays are trying to seem older. But just in case, trust your judgement and talk to people only over 18/21. Good luck!

I am in the same boat. I think you are right to stay with the over 21 crowd. As long as you are honest with your age, and they still keep chatting with you, it is cool. Keep it clean, you don't want to end up on Dateline NBC. I find that as soon as I say my age, the chatting stops. I have found a few true people,. that hung in there, and kept chatting. I am with you.

you can chat with whoever you like, it really has to do with your intentions, if you think chatting with someone under 21 is perverted, its all in your head, don't have kids or you will never be able to talk to them. people under 21 aren't as dumb and lost as we might like to think. some of them are pretty wise. being a pervert is doing perverted things and has nothing to do with ones age. if you have no intentions of taking advantage of someones immaturity , then you aren't a pervert no matter what age you are.
