Git-em-gang sounds sensible to ME! A good breeder is not just going to take your word for it that you would like to give a pup a good home. Many purebred dogs end up in shelters or chained outside when people find out they're too much trouble.

Terriers are a handful! Norwich are among the sweeter and easier terriers to train, but they're still terriers. They can be dominant, stubborn and dog aggressive and they may kill any small animals they can get their teeth on. If they're raised with cats, they will often (but not always) be ok if you train them properly.

You have to make training sessions frequent, short and interesting, with fun and tasty rewards. The dog has to clearly see the advantage of obeying you. It's best to begin when the pup is very young - once they've learned to get away with bad behavior you'll have a hell of a time breaking it. Terriers use their intelligence to get OUT of doing what you want.

Unless you're very talented and very experienced, it's unlikely that your terrier will ever be reliable off-leash. If a barking dog or a cat or a squirrel comes along - wham! - there goes your dog. Instinct is much more powerful than training.

Go to the websites, read some books, go to some dog shows and learn a lot more - don't expect people on yahoo answers to spoon-feed you everything you need to know.

And BEFORE you get any dog,you should read some great books on training. (Try not to pick books randomly - there are a lot of bad books out there also!) These are some of my favorites and you can get them on Amazon.com

Why? "East coast" is close enough for now ;-)

You looking @ the breed? You need to do LOTZ of homework. What are you looking for? M? F? Show? Pet? Color? Age? Have you thought that far ahead?
Terriers are bred to g-t-g (go to ground) after vermin. That includes Norwich. They "pack" well in general.*Can* be taught to leave cats alone. Are the least "terrier-ish" of the group but are NOT toy dogs. Should be hand-stripped,NOT clippered.Notoriously poor reproductive record.

Think I already told you go to some shows, didn't I?And read the AKC standards? You need to meet these dogs & be prepared to make a MAJOR commitment, financial & otherwise.

I & all the reputable breeders I know, turn down more folks than are allowed to buy a dog. Pet stock WILL go on limited reg. & WILL be altered.
Sound mean, hard & elitist? D*** straight! *MY* pups aren't gonna end up in some fools breeding program.

Neat little dogs...NOT for everybody.

Hey Kristyn....Grow up first,OK??
"Love wittle doggies"? So what? Doesn't mean your mature enough to have any. These are MY dogs & I CARE where they go! Don't get all pouty cuz I don't gush over ya'll. Over the years,I've talked to WAY TOO MANY idiots to worry about your possible hurt feelings.
I'm the world's lousiest saleman...er...person. But I'd rather keep my pups until the right home comes along than dump em on just anybody.
PS: I have a litter due soon,by a very nice ("imported" from Ca.& Champion-of course)new dog. These ought be VERY nice pups.

Your best bet would be to go to the web and look up "Norwich Terrier". On the web it will give you different sites that you can read up on your pet.

Thanks for any inconveniences.
