What's most important is what NOT to eat.

A sensible healthy eating plan is fine. You don't actually need to "eat for two". In fact, the extra calories you need even in your third trimester only add up to a couple of pieces of toast. So just continue to eat a sensible, well rounded diet.

But avoid:

raw, rare and undercooked meats
soft and runny cheeses
raw eggs (be aware of recipes and sauces that contain raw eggs, like fresh mayonnaise)
shell fish
make sure milk is pasturized (if it's store bought, you're okay)
- all of these are due to bacterial infections like salmonella

alcohol - that's obvious. It can cause a whole range of problems for your unborn child

nuts - It's not a case of out right stopping them, but if there is any history of nut allergy in your family it's best to avoid them. If there's no history though, you're fine.

Generally, eat protiens, grains, dairy, vegetables - all the stuff on the food pyramid. Beef, eggs, veggies (green leafy veggies especially), dairy (yogurt, cottage cheese, milk), grains (oatmeal, whole grain breads), seafood (avoid eating a lot of tuna or salmon while you're pregnant - lean toward baked or broiled fillets - cod, haddock).

What you eat is mostly common sense. You want to stay as nutritionally healthy as possible so you maintain a healthy home for your growing baby.

What you don't eat is really important: soda pop. Beer, liquor. Sugary cereals. Doughnuts and pastries. It's not helpful to your system, your blood pressure, or your baby if you put on huge amounts of weight.

Do exercise. Do not smoke.

Oh, and congratulations! - Stuart

Same thing you used to eat before, but put more fruits, vegetables and try to be low fat. Also don't forget to take your vitamin with Iron in the morning , very important. Oh and if you intend to breast feed, be sure to look it up, because there's some things like garlic that you can't eat. So Goodluck and you will be so surprise of the love you feel for that little angel. It is a gift from God.

You really should get this advice from your O.B.G.Y.N....not every person is the same when it come to pregnacy. There are some test (sugar, among other's) that need to be ran to make sure you're not at high risk.

You could purchase the book What to Expect When Expecting this would be could to go along with or the baby channel, but defintely see a doctor.

Good Luck & Congrulations!!!

Congratulations! Just eat a healthy balanced diet....lots of fruits and veggies and fiber...stay away from caffeine and of course alcohol and smoking. Also be careful not to over eat....the old saying your eating for 2 isn't true....you will regret it is you put on more than 20-25 pounds. Getting the weight off and keeping it off can be a real pain!

Just eat healthy, plenty of green veggies (spinach is best) they are high in folic acid which protects against birth defects. Flax seed promotes brain development, I drank flax seed oil when I was prego but they make flax seed waffles and other food. And most importantly TAKE YOUR PRE_NATAL VITAMINS!

You should eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, anything and everything full of calcium. Snacks are good and fun. Vitamins are a MUST. Drink plenty of milk for calcium.
