For the same reasons a good chunk of Christians need to answer questions about Wiccans/Pagans only to tell them they are worshiping Satan, are evil, going to hell, etc. Add to that all the Christians that post questions for non-believers then pick a Christians answer even though the question wasn't targeted to them. There is also the stuff with Christians trying to convert everyone when they are asked not to. And people HAVE, numerous times on this board, put forth why they don't believe he is real. People just chose to ignore it is all. To top it all off there is the junk about how we are just 'afraid to hear the truth' and other things along that line. Sorry, that is insulting to those that don't believe as you do. As for 'trying to break down Christians' by saying God doesn't exist, that isn't doing that at all, that is just expressing their opinion, not an 'attack' or 'bashing' nor is it 'hate'.
All this really is is a case of you get back as much respect as you give. Respect others and their belief system and they will, in turn, respect yours.

As Christians we know that there are 2 sides to this world. There is God's and there is Satan's. Satan convinces people of many lies and wants them not to follow God and will use any means to do so.
When an atheist or anyone else of another faith cuts a Christian off then they simply cannot handle the truth being said. I am not saying this in a saracastic way, but sincere. Satan does not like hearing the truth, although he knows it. When a person is not a Christian they resist the truth and are basically a follower of Satan. However most people do not even see it that way. Satan has all these great titles, like New Age, Scientology, Muslim and Jewish. Please do not get me wrong I am not going after any group here, however if you are not following Christ you are not following God. Hence cannot grasp the truth or even want to hear it.
Sorry I got a little into what I was saying there, I just wanted to thoroughly explain where I was comng from. Simply put an atheist does not want to hear the truth because whether they believe it or not are being used as Satan pawn's.

I think most atheists base their decision on the modern scientific need for irrefuteable evidence. Which is impossible to present in the case of: "Is God real"? Many are actually not opposed to the idea of God, they just want you to prove it. If you had to present your arguement in a court, how would you go about it. There other problem is too many people in support of religion cite the Bible as "the word of God", when it clearly isn't. It is the work of many men, over the course of centuries, many of whom we know a lot about, and can prove they worte it. Also much of the new testament was written decades, even centuries after the events they describe, often having been passed by word of mouth for generations. These sorts of facts make it very difficult for scientifically oriented people to accept such claims.
Just for the record, despite the fact I am an archaeologist, therefore a scientist, and have personally done much research into the history of religion, in particular the Christian tradition, I do believe in God, I just don't believe that men (or women) have a right to try and dictate what or how your relationship with God should be....
God comes from within your own heart, not a pulpit....

Explaining why god isn't real takes more than a simple post on Yahoo Answers. There are piles of books and reports that need to be read and researched. And you have to do this yourself. So, no. An atheist is not going to prove God doesn't exist here on this forum.
What we will do is ask the questions and provide the answers that will lead you to the knowledge you need. If you really are serious, and want to understand atheism, then look at the link below. It's just the tip of the iceberg, but it's a pretty nice start to understanding why there is no god.

Now I'm not shooting anybody down but I have reasons for both sides...
For everyone who thinks god isn't real because people suffer by your reasoning I can say that barbers aren't real because people have long hair. Don't use the excuse you can see barbers some people actually haven't seen a barber. People have long hair because they don't go to the barber the same is with god people have suffering because they don't go to god. Oh and there is freewill you can do bad things to others if you want but when they die they may go to god.
What?!?! you say. Just because you can see something doesn't mean its actually there and just because you can't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Example your brain can you see it? NO and don't even say other people have seen it so that makes it real. Other people have seen god but some still don't believe. The air is another example can you see it? NO you feel it some people feel god.
As for the bible and the church if your looking at them and judging all Christians by that and your interpretation of it you can be the same as the people over in other countries looking at America and saying how bad we are but you don't see what they mean you're completely deaf to those comments and you stand against them. Same with Christianity AND Atheists they don't hear the other sides comments and they stand strong against them.
And for that person who said that when your born you don't know god so that makes him unreal. You don't know anything when your born. You don't know how to walk but many people do, you don't know how to talk again many people do, and you don't even know how to breathe because in the womb you "breathe" water your amphibious until the doctor spanks you and you cry and everybody breathes.
As for no proof no side has substantial proof enough that they can "break down" the other side. For some Christians the proof is the bible. For some atheists the proof is the "big bang" (but I think that makes no sense really though because it states that in the beginning there was nothing then the nothing blew up and the earth was there. Research has shown that since the beginning of time nothing has EVER been created from and explosion just look at Pompeii) for other atheists its Lucy. Everybody believes what they believe and to believe in god you have to walk by faith.
FOR THE ATHEISTS
Christians try to "shove god down your throat" because (for those of you that have read the bible) the job Christians have been give is the spread the faith. And some of them are extreme both sides have them. Deal with it!!
FOR THE CHRISTIANS
Atheists try to "break down" Christians because they are spreading their faith in the way you spread god. And there are some who are extreme but some Christians are too. Deal with it!! And don't tell anyone they are going to hell. I know that if you want to convert them saying that they're going to hell kills any chance of conversion ever happening besides who are you to judge.

And YOU can't explain why god IS real! All you know is what you read and to quote bible crap! You no longer have a mind of your own! One reason we are sick of you religious people is that you are always trying to cram that stupid stuff down our throats! You never let up! There's more to life then hearing that crap day and night, night and day, all day long, non stop bulls**t! Shut up all ready! If we want to hear about it, we sure know where to find it! We may not have any proof of anything, but neither do any of you! I say: Where's YOUR proof, other then a damn book that (MAN) made up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. When I give my opinion on stuff like this all I ever get in return is stupid junk like: I will prey for you, or you're going to hell, or I feel so sorry for you, or I hope god forgives you! Shut the hell up and keep your snide comments to your selves!

Most of the atheists I know are pretty decent people. There are a few, though, who seem to enjoy making nasty remarks to and about Christians.
This could possibly be because they are frustrated by arrogant, insensitive, holier-than-thou Christian wanna-bees who keep trying to shove our faith down their throats. This attitude does not glorify Christ. One wonders whether such people are truly Christians at all, or whether they are just folks with low self esteem trying to make themselves feel better by convincing themselves that they are above the rest of the human race, when the fact is that we need Christ because we are sinners in the first place. Where is the humility? Where is the love? I am a Christian, and I am often disgusted with other "Christians" who try to tell me how I ought to live, what I ought to think, how to dress, etc...as if they think THEY are God.
As you mentioned, God is able to handle it. Once you have given your message, and the other person has indicated that he is not interested, let Jesus take it from there. You've planted your seed, it is His job to make it grow, NOT yours...
Thank you for giving me the chance to get that off my chest, and for the two points, and may God be gracious to us all.

Each person has the right to decide their religious preferences. Regardless of their choice, they should *not* judge others who have chosen differently.
Many athiests find themselves upset because of the sheer amount of people who try to convert them into a form of religion... in my opinion, most of us do not mind sharing ideas and thoughts with those of religions.. although it does get tiring having people constantly trying to "bring them in."
I can also understand where people of faith could be upset due to a similar reason. Often, athiests find it necessary to stand up for their rights... and it seems as though they are "putting down" those of faith.. and sometimes it does happen outright.
Other times, athiests are judged.. especially in places like this. I have seen numerous threads as to why athiests choose what they do, and that they are absolutely, drop-dead wrong.
Overall, if everyone... athiests, those of faith, those of confused status.. should have the same rights to share their opinions on matters.. without being judged.
As an athiest, I feel frowned upon by many people of faith.. It is difficult, as a person who has gone to church, been through several different religions.. tried to find the truth, and come to the conclusion that athiesm is right for me. It isn't that I haven't given things a chance. It isn't that I dislike people or religion.. I just have a certain belief.
To answer a part of your question, nobody can explain if God exists, or doesn't.. that is part of the mystery and greatness of being able to choose our paths.

To atheists, God, is an ephermal entity who represents the myraid sects of beliefs from the Aztecs to Christians, Muslims etc. The main tenent of a "God" is seen as the "omnipotent creator" and author of the "moral code". As in the Koran ,Torah, Book of Morman ,etc. As Salmun Rushdie says" the atheist has an inate moral code, as has the majority of humanity; the need for a "God figure " lies in fixed rules and codes regulating diverse ethnic and cultural structures, thus guaranteeing "life after death". death. For a majority of the worlds population "death without an afterlife is a "bitter pill to swallow"

what is you gonna explain about god, girl. what kinda god is you talkin about? some dude you found in the bible? you dont even know what god is, how is you gonna explain god to anybody? why god aint real? youre the one who should answer our question first - why do you say gods real? gods unnatural. when you is born, do you know of any gods? who tells you that theres a god. your parents and the church, right? but if they didnt tell, youd know nothing about it. how can you be sure that everybody isnt lying? it's not like god existed all this time and it was proven so, and all of a sudden we question his existence. god never existed, and what we're questioning is you saying that he exists. you sound like we're questionin the existence of water or something. you see water and you feel it, so it is. but do you even feel god? no, if you put this question out, 30% of the answers are gonna be from christians sayin that atheists are evil and that they should die, if they dont wanna believe in god. NOW, WHO'S EVIL?
why dont you tells us why god is real, cause you created it, you gotta explain yourself first. and then i'll tell why he isnt real.
