I live in the basement apartment in the country, and somebody's dog keeps pooping right outside my bedroom window. (which is open all the time I'm home) Is there anything I can do, or put down, that would deter him from leaving his smelly mark within a foot of my window??? (And no, antifreeze is NOT an option - something safe)

Not sure if it's a stray or someone's pet...at least 5 or 6 people in my immediate area have dogs, but hardly anyone ties them or puts them on a leash. They just run wherever. I've seen 6 different dogs run through my yard at one point in time or another. Tried calling local "dog catchers" but where I'm in the middle of the country, they all say it's the "other dog catchers" responsibility....

There is a spray product that pet stores sell, but we have always used red pepper, don't know how to spell it, but I will try. Its Cyan Pepper. Works well. You might have to put a little water on it after you sprinkle it in the area. Good Luck

There are products you can buy that are designed to supposedly keep cats and dogs away from areas that they have been applied--check your local garden center. You can also pick up a sprinkler that operates on a motion sensor--when ever it "sees" something moving, it gives it a good shot of water--works in my yard on rabbits! If you can't find one of those, try using a squirt gun or spray bottle--add a little dish soap and some hot pepper sauce to the water, if you can spray the dog in the face thru the window, it shouldn't come back! Lastly, talk to your landlord--let them know how much this is bothering you--they may have a more permanent solution.

Something safe? To deter it?
Take a piece of wood and attach to window frame so it would stick out, and be a little higher then the dogs head.
Attach frayed speaker wiring the the wood, run it up the the edge over where the dog will pop. Fray the end and hang it down.
Attach other end to three D sized batteries.

there are sprays sold at pet stores that do not smell good to dogs. Or if you have a web cam tape the window and when you see who it is put the poop in a bag and leave it on their door step with a note. Last but not least what works for me is on a day they don't know I'm home I let my rottweiler out when I see them come by and she takes are of the problem right away.

Is the dog a stray or just somebodies pet? If it's a stray why not adopt it or take it to your local Humane Society?

Simple and Safe! Use dried powder red (cayenne) pepper, just sprinkle it down and when the dog comes by he will smell around to find his spot. The pepper will make him sneeze and go away. And it will not harm him in any way.

Call your landlord and complain. Or better yet, call the dog catcher. Make it somebody else's problem.
