By "tragedy" I assume you're referring to 9/11. or possibly the attacks on our embassies in 1998. or the attacks on that school in Russia or on those night clubs, the college cafeteria... "Tragedy" implies accidents not attacks with intent to kill.

To suggest that if we stopped war we would stop all the killing is the same as suggesting that if we did away with cops and detectives there would be no more murders. You want to believe this to be true (as I did in the 70's) because the solution would then be easy. We would be in control if we could just vote right or do the right thing... Solutions are never that easy, if they exist at all. Please listen and understand - while I and my friends congratulated ourselves on bringing the troops home and ending the Vietnam War, 100's of thousands of innocent people were still being slaughtered by those that "defeated" us in Cambodia and Vietnam. And we called that Peace!

Thanks to our military, today's war bears little semblance to the wars of the past. And as long as the world continues to have what you call tragedies, we have no semblance of Peace.

No but when someone attacks unprovoked, you can bet they'll do it again. Our job, if it is in our power, is to protect the one's who cannot protect themselves.
