Actually cats do drink out of toilets, or at least I know one that does! And let me tell you, its funny to watch, and even funnier when she slips and gets wet. Ever see a cat walk on water?

When I got my newest addition to the house, a dog, I made sure that the seats were always down, I keep her dish clean and cold for water. Most dogs can have a harder time drinking or eating from a bowl on the ground as opposed to one raised up some, depending on their size. This can also be a reason for drinking from the toilet, its at a height that is easier to use for them.

Well...animals are like us humans...they love fresh water...and typically water in the toilet bowl is fresh. We would all drink what water was available to us if we were thirsty enough, however we certaintly appreciate the value of fresh water and so do our pets!

Some pet owners go so far as to put a bowl in the bathroom sink and let water drip into it continously so that their pets have fresh water 24/7...personally, I just change the water twice a day for my pets and keep the toilet lid closed!

The water is colder in the porcelain toilet bowl. Some dogs seem to prefer their water colder than what has been sitting out in a dish on the floor at room temperature.

there are four answers to this question.

1. There is no water in his bowl.
2. He knows no better.
3. The water in his bowl is dirty and he found another source.
4. He just don't like his bowl and the toilet bowl tickles his fancy.

Has your dog ever seen you crap? Seriously? If not, then how would they know what the toilet is used for? How would they know ( besides the smell if your just that funky :P) what actions take place their?

In their minds its like, "hmmm I now got two sources of water, and everyone knows two is always better than one" instead of "Damn, Johnny sure did stink up the bathroom".

But I always wonder why dogs go for it, and cats never do. Instead they just have a silly facination with the toilet paper instead of the water.

My dogs do stuff like that. I have a water bowl on my porch and they'll walk past it to take a drink out of a mud hole or a tire that's laying around. Crazy dogs.

I heard it's colder in the toilet(don't know from experience just what I've heard)Also..dogs like to eat ****..maybe they're getting the best of both worlds by drinking shitty water.

Maybe because it's higher than their bowl and they don't have to dip their head as low.

How to stop this behavior: make sure the bathroom door is always closed (what we do for our cats who like to play shread the toilet paper) or at least make sure the lid is always down.

Or at the very least always remember to flush and keep the bowl clean

Because he is a dog and can not rationale that this is my bowl ,I should only drink out of it, not the toilet because humans use that for disposing their waste
