I honestly believe she has/had a lot more going on than post-partum. While I don't think what she did was right and I feel sorry for those kids, I think she needs to be somewhere getting help not locked up. Only an insane person can kill 5 kids that they gave birth to. I refuse to believe she was sane and for that reason I think that she should be sent to a mental hospital and not to a prison where no rehibilitation will be done. Not everyone should be locked away and throw away the key, some people actually need help as I believe Yates does.

I think the sick b**ch should DIE!!! I am so tired of hearing: THE INSANE DEFENSE!!! In my opinion, if a person is that insane, then kill them! What good are they! Why should we have mercy on someone who is insane? The more reason to permanently remove them from the world! Who wants a world full of insane,(supposedly treated) people walking around! The insane CAN'T EVER be normal! The same goes for child rapist who murder their victims, KILL THOSE MOTHER F**KERS! They've turned some of those loose, saying they are cured, and they murder again! KILL THEM! KILL THEM ALL! And that pig Andrea Yates should die also! She is a worthless piece of filth! Besides that, why should she be allowed to be rehabilitated? Is that gonna help those beautiful murdered children? NO! It will only help her a** !!! Kill her! What I also find disgusting, is when someone finally gets to die after spending years on death row, there are those stupid, ignorant, do good-er, religious fanatics standing outside burning those dumb candles and praying and crying for the murderers! Who cries for the victims? NO ONE!!!!!! You wanted my opinion, well I gave it! My answer will probably be pulled and deleted, as I am sure I've offended some a** out there!

no i dont. postpartum i is the time after birth in which the mother's body, including hormone levels and womb size, return to prepregnancy conditions. During the first stages of this period, the newborn also starts her or his adaptation to extrauterine life, the most significant physiological transition until death. there is nothing "insane" about this process. the woman knew what she was doing. she was not insane. would her husband marry an insane woman? come on now. that woman deserves 5 times worse than what she's getting for the murder of her children. thinking about it makes me sick. & the fact that the attorney made up some b.s episode of CSI to compare to ms. yates situation makes me even more angry.

Having never suffered with PPD, I can't answer this. Did she REALLY experience it, or is she using it as an excuse? I know that regular depression can cause people to do some pretty crazy stuff, so I don't know why PPD would be any different.
I really don't believe in the death penalty. It's not up to us to decide who dies and how they die. I hope she gets life in prison and is forced to stay in solitary confinement.
I hope Andrea Yates rots in Hell.

I think it is bull crap. I do know that there is depression after child birth but it is crap to kill a child or children. I felt like I was the problem, as though I could not do enough for my 3 year old and my newborn. Postpartum in the case you are speaking of is just a way to get a murder off of death row.

I think it is truly unfortunate. The woman is definitely crazy, to be able to do this in the first place. However, it is very difficult to win a case with an insanity plea in Texas. I beleive she did the crime, and should now serve her time...in jail or institutionalized, whichever way the trial goes. She should not be back out on the streets.

i think anyone who kills her children is insane, but i also think that insanity of that nature ought to be a reason to keep her out of our society for a very long time
as for a retrial, i havent heard the legal specifics of why she is being retried or what have you
if it is a mistrial then there are procedures for it
if they are trying her again just to get a conviction i have a problem with that because specific cases and a predetermind outcome are not what our system is for or should be
the rule of law is more important than any specific case

She didn't just have post-partum depression. She had psychosis, a lot of which developed as a result of post-partum issues. She'd had problems before, but her idiotic husband believed in keeping her pregnant even though she was mentally ill. He shares in the responsibility for the deaths of those children.

I think post partum is real, but she still killed her kids and needs to be held responsible for that no matter what her "mental state" was like at the time. Obviously, if you kill your kids you're off your rocker. The world would be a safer place without her in it.

I dont like the death penalty because frankly i believe is NOT ENOUGH!!! PEOPLE LIKE ANDREA YATES NEED TO DIE THEY WAY THE KILL THEIR VICTIMS...SINCE SHE DROWNED ALL 5 OF HER KIDS ...SHE NEEDS TO BE DROWNED UNTIL SHE PASSES OUT THEN SHE NEEDS TO BE REVIVED AND HAVE THE PROCESS DONE ALL OVER AGAIN UNTIL SHE FINALLY DIES FOR THE 5TH TIME!!!..
PEOPLE LIKE HER WILL NEVER BE CURED AND THEY NEED TO SUFFER ...
WHY WASTE OUR TAX DOLLARS FOR A BIOTCH LIKE HER?!!!.......MILLIONS OF OUR HARD EARNED DOLLARS WILL BE SPENT JUST TO SHOVE MEDICINE DOWN HER THROAT EVERYDAY....SKIP THAT.....
there are PLENTY of INSANE PEOPLE who do not go around KILLING THEIR CHILDREN ....ANDREA YATES HAS NO EXCUSE...she a MURDERER AND NEEDS TO GET SENTENCE TO DEATH..
