And if he is, aren't there other gods we should be concerned about as well?

If not a god, then why does he supposedly get so much power and influence on the world stage?

According to the Christians, Satan is "god of the world".

"The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, "I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you worship me, it will all be yours." [Luke 4:5]

Now the question is, who gave the world to the devil, and how can an angel tempt the son of god?

These are serious problems for Christians. The answer is this: The "devil" is a creator god, he created the world. This scripture comes directly from the Ophite christian gnostics. Devil is not an angel, he's a powerful demiurge. He is just one of many gods. Further...

Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me... "You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire." [John 8:42]

So, obviously a "fallen angel" doesn't get to have so much power, god would just kick his butt like he did to Pharaoh and his other enemies. See the inconsistencies? But god can't kick his butt because he ((is)) that same god. The Christian bible contains much gnosticism (many scholars agree on this), that's why it's so very problematic. Some of Paul's original writings are full of gnostic terminology (Archons, Aeons, Pleroma, etc.)

I love this question! Satan was actually a very important angel at one time, given the job of ruling the Garden of Eden. He became very jealous of Jehovah's power, and resented that Jesus was second in line. Wanting the worship for himself, he deceived Eve, telling her that God was a liar and that if she ate the fruit of the tree of knowlege, that she would positively not die, contradicting what God had told her and Adam (Genesis 2:17, 3:4). While Eve was truly decieved and ate from the tree, when Adam had the choice, he knew he was going against Jehovah's command. Thus, his disobedience brought about pain, illness, and death. Since they pretty much told God they can do just fine without him, and Satan presented a number of challenges to God, he allowed Satan to try to draw as many of us away from God as possible, which is why there is so much evil and misery on the earth. In 1914, Jehovah cast Satan and the angels he recruited out of heaven and down to earth. Satan also knows that his day is drawing to an end, so he's kind of kicking up evil a notch, also prophecised in the bible. So, he's not a god, he's a punk wanna-be. And I can't wait to see him get his butt kicked.

Very intersting question.

Well, from what I remember (and this is going WAAAY back) Lucifer was not just an angel - he was the first angel. He was perfect and beautiful and God's right hand man (sort of speak).

He was originally called the Morningstar (I am not making this up, but you can definitely do your own research on it), because he was the Angel of Light. Not sure who took his place after he fell from Grace, but I digress.

After God created EVERYTHING and set Adam and Eve into the Garden things get confusing.

For example - how could Lucifer be the serpent to tempt Eve when God sent Lucifer to serve as sentry (or guard) over the Garden after Adam and Eve were kicked out?

Remember, God had a flaming sword going back and forth to make sure Adam and Co. didn't try to sneak back in. Well, that flaming sword was Lucifer.

So how could Lucifer disobey God and then be trusted to keep out squatters?

No, Lucifer and God had a falling out much later... I forget over what. It really doesn't matter.

As far as I see it according to Biblical history there is only ONE God. Lucifer/Satan "could" be considered at the very least a minor god, and all the other angels and demons much lower on the totem pole.

Satan is not a god, all things and creatures were created by the one true God as the Bible says. Anything can be your god as God said that you should not have any other gods before me, your car, money, etc. Satan was a powerful being created by God as in Isaiah he says that he was the bright and morning star. He was like the highest angel created, and we see in the Bible what regular angels can do, like manifest in human form, strong to role away the stone at the tomb and when that angel hit the ground their was a great earthquake. So he has alot of power. That doesn't make him a god, our understanding of power limits us because we have none really since the fall of man, remember the Bible says that man was created a little less than the angels, our former glory is lost because of sin but God promises us to renew us when He comes again, if we believe and follow Him.

See Isaiah 14: Satan (Lucifer) was a created angel of the highest order, known as a cherub (pleural cherubim). He was present in the Garden of Eden and later formed proud thoughts that lead him to conclude he could be just like God.

The only God to be concerned about is the one and only God; the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. If you are concerned with other "gods," you are an idolitor and you have believed the lie Satan whispered to Eve: you can be just like god.

Lucifer has power over this earth because (I paraphrase here) God said, "Ok, you think you're me? You think you can do what I do? Here's the earth. You lead my perfect created beings [Adam and Eve] into sin. See what you can do with this world." Human beings have turned their backs on God ever since. Even those of us who believe never would have returned to Him unless He called us.

A very sobering thought.

Satan is a creature created by the Creator Allah (God).
So, logically if we need to worship, we should worship the Creator Allah (God).
As to why Satan has so much power and influence, the answer is simple, Allah (God) gave the humans the free well to follow Allah (God) or to follow Satan.Allah ( God) being the Creator and knowing the future of the universe and all people, prepared Heaven for His followers and Hell-Fire for the followers of Satan.
So it is our choice were we want to end.

Boy! Are you going to get a lot of different answers on this one. But after many years of searching and asking lot's of questions myself, I know without a doubt that I have found the right answer.
God is God. He is the only God. God created everything, including the angel Satan.
But there was a point at which Satan rebelled against God and Satan and his followers were cast out of heaven. In the Bible see Isaiah 14:12-15. It says in short paraphrase...how you have been cast down to earth. You said in your heart I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God. I will make myself like the Most High. (Satan was determined to be greater than God.) Verse 15: But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit. (Hell).
Satan, the devil, has been called the prince of this world. He is alive and active and very real.
Satan is powerful and he has had influence on this world since the beginning. In the Garden of Eden, Satan (the serpent) encouraged and convinced Eve to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (so she could be like God, Genesis 3:5), the one thing that God had commanded not to do (Genesis 2:16-17). That was the beginning of evil here on earth.
So why would God allow evil to exist? God has allowed us the freedom to choose for ourselves which path we want to take. Whether to follow Him... or to be like Satan, arrogant, boastful and desiring to reign over God Most High.
Are you ever depressed, looking for love, addicted, having trouble in relationships, lost in the hopelessness of life? That is what Satan is all about. He loves the false information of this world. How you'll never be enough...smart enough, thin enough, rich enough, attractive enough. See the POWER in that?
But God made you just the way you are. The Bible says you are fearfullly and wonderfully made! What great news. The Bible and God are full of GREAT NEWS!!!!
Witches, demons satan, angels...yep, all real. But the great news is God is REAL and He's good all the time. He loves me and He loves you and He wants to have a relationship with you.
...Now, ask me about Jesus :-}
Give Him a try and experince a life change...for real!
Life still isn't easy, but it can be full of peace and hope and joy. Have a wonderful life!!!!
I have just read the answers which have been posted to this point.
Pick up a Bible. There are no contradictions, just lot's of mis-informed people who don't know what the Bible says, don't want to know... Everything in the Bible is accurate and true. Non-believers don't want to believe it's true, they don't want to believe that it could possibly be true. But, God is a loving and just God. He loves us all equally and all He wants is for us to love Him. There has been a lot of scripture quoted and misquoted and thrown around.
There are lot's of religions, and lot's of denominations within those religions. Religion was created by man. But God's word comes from Him. If God can create everything, then He can handle something as simple as keeping His Holy Word pure and translated as He wants it to be.
Your question is part of your journey and you won't be satisfied
until you find the truth. My journey took me through many religions and beliefs and I finally found the Truth. It is provable. And it is life changing.

try picturing this : one car , one driver seat , but there are two or more person commandeering the car , can it happen ? NO is everyone's answer , ....
because u cant hav 1 person hand on the wheel , the other person right foot on the eccelerator , another person left foot on the clutch pedal , and so on depending on your imagination . and to top it all you might just catch the policeman's eye and get booked for no reason .
and also you can't have more than 1 mother , example 1 mother gave birth to your head , 1 mother gave birth to your torso , 1 mother gave birth to your legs and so on .... the answer is IMPOSSIBLE .
NONE is worthy of worship except ALLAH .
one person was thinking that maybe the sun is god but when the sun sets and the moon appeared , he thought the moon is god , and in the end he decided neither was god ,. .
so he came to the conclusion that he put his faith to the ONE CREATOR that had created the sun , the moon and everything seen or unseen , imaginable and the unimaginable . that man was IBRAHIM ALAIHISSALAM . whom hindoos called brah-ma .

satan was just another creature fooling around with your mind . laughing at you at your stupidity . just like your friends at school or work fooling with you , and laugh at you .
think about it . carefully . ALLAH is UNimaginable . but acceptable to our heart ,because our heart wants to believe in something , why not rest your heart to ALLAH (the only one creator)

Jewish thought on Satan:

This is completely contrary to everything Judaism believes. We reject that interpretation entirely.

What, then, does Judaism teach about Satan?

The Hebrew word "Satan" means "Hinderer." To hinder someone means to hold him back, to try to prevent him from doing something. G-d created the Hinderer to give us work to do in this world (see my article Why did G-d Create the World?). Satan is here to make things difficult for us, so we can overcome our evil temptations, and PASS the test. That is the purpose of Satan. Satan is an angel whose purpose has been determined by G-d.

Temptation is there to try and deter us. It gives us the ability to do the wrong thing. More importantly, it gives us the ability to look at evil and refuse to do it. By presenting us with the opportunity to do evil, it gives us the ability to choose between good and evil.

The ability to choose between good and evil is what gives us free will.

So, in order for us to work for the good that Hashem wants to give us, the good of the World to Come, we need something to deter us. That is the ability to do evil. Satan is our Evil Inclination. The Evil Inclination tries to prevent us from doing good, because Hashem has commanded the Evil Inclination to do that. Why? To give us free will.

Each of us every day fights with Satan. We all have temptations, throughout the day. But we, as the Children of Israel, have the power to overcome even angels, if we work at it. Therefore, the Talmud says that men are greater than angels, for we can fight with an angel (Satan) and win.

Satan is not, as the Christians think, a rebellious angel. How impossible! The angels are spiritual and holy, without any physical or unholy presence, and the presence of Hashem's holiness permeates them entirely. Angels, unlike humans, are therefore constantly and fully aware of Hashem's Presence everywhere. Could you stay dry in the ocean? An angel could not stop being holy, and can do no wrong. There is holiness everywhere in Creation, everywhere in the universe, and angels are made of the same thing. An angel could not stop serving G-d even if he tried.

Furthermore, humans have Satan to tempt us. Angels have no Satan to tempt them. Who would be Satan's Satan? An ultra-Satan?

The truth is that Satan has a job to do, just like every other angel. And angels have no free will. They do as Hashem commands them.>

Yes, in a sense.

1 John 5:19
We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.

2 Corinthians 4:4 (King James Version)

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
