they will are more expensive because of new york is a hot tourist attraction so they know people will pay almost any price for them..also new york has tax..also beacuse of the number of taxis runs the car rental places out of business

All the big city's have the same problem ,because they get a lot of visitors ,and beside that when it's Holiday time or due to some othere reason they are getting more visitor rates go more high.

In a free market economy prices are based on supply and demand. Cars are premium in New York and thus you pay more because the market scarcity dictates price. Whatever the market will bear.
