She is a 4 yr old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Since day one she has done this, even when she has been out and done a wee she will still wet. Apparently its very rare for a dog to foul their bed, and females dont general mark territory. We got our second dog about 18 months after her, but she was doing it before he arrived. she will wee in both beds if we separate them. Any help is really appreciated!

she doesn't feel safe in her bed and doesn't regard it as her bed. Is there somewhere else she prefers to sleep? try putting her bed in this spot. It should stop in no time. As to wetting the other dogs bed, it is territorial. Girl dogs are just as territorial as boys, but it is less advertised.

If she is doing it deliberately - getting on her bed and squatting then it is probably a behaviour problem associated with some sort of stress.

I couldn't begin to guess at what that might be as I don't know your circumstances although a few people will try to give you an answer.

A consultation with a dog behaviourist might sort it.

If it is involuntary urination - she does it when she is sleeping, lying down, sitting down - then she needs to be checked out by a Vet in case there is some physical problem - kidneys, weak bladder etc.

As you say it is very rare for a dog to foul their sleeping area.

I would need a few more details on her. But judging by what you said, it sounds to me like she a small bladder. Like you said, dogs dont mess in their sleeping quarters (unless they are young pups, of course). And females will "mark" territory if they are the Alpha female. This could explain why she is 'marking' the other dogs bed. They dont 'hike' like the males do, though. The only things I could imagine, by what you said, 1)She has a small bladder and is having a hard time keeping built-up urine inside.2) Have you tried trimming the excess hair around her privates? It could be that this is irritating her and making her feel like she still needs to 'go'. If all else fails, take her to a vet and explain to him/her what her symptoms are. Since she has done this since day one, it leads me to think its a bladder problem.

Your dog may be incontinent, brought on by drinking too much cold water or some other beverage that has diuretic properties.

You say your dog is CKCS - no doubt a pedigree. Due to incestuous breeding by unscrupulous breeders, defects are brought about. This may be the situation with your dog

I have kept dogs for many years, especially bitches all have been crossbreeds. I would never consider taking on th e responsibility of caring for pure breeds unless I know that they come from good stock and reliable breeders.

This is rare. Since this has been going on a long time, then I wouldn't think it is bladder related. Has she been spayed? This can be related to that. There is a homeopathic remedy called Leak No More that you could try. They have it at pet stores and at www.jefferspet.com .
Also the vets can prescribe meds for this.

train your dog to do it immediately after she has eaten.
What I did was to put her out in the garden immediately after the meal, and wait until she is done it. When she did I always praised her so to know that she is done right.

Your dog as you train her. They also smell the place where they have done it last time where they are likely to do it again.

You must completely clean her bed off the smell, so she would not recognise it there.
She must do it every evening before she goes to bed.

it may be over active blatter, females sometimes do mark territory from scent not from urine like males do, she may just get excited from the other dog, and cant really control what she's doing, so try calling up a vet and see what they say. if it gets worse you might want to have her checked good luck sweetie

Have you thought she may have a weak bladder, or a bladder infection. This would cause the problem. I would ask your vet as soon as possible, in case it is serious, but if it isnt, he may be able to sort out the problem for you.

I have never heard of this one - its one thing for her to use her own bed, but to use the other as well!
Heres the web address for The Association of Pet Behaviour Therapists, good luck!

Did anyone bother house training her? Otherwise, take her to the vet, she may have kidney problems.
