There is a flea and tick granule that you can get at a local farm supply even walmart. Seven dust is what i use and it does not harm the pets. It is not that ezpensive either.

I have used seven dust for years and it has never harmed my pets. You are asking what can be put down on your yard, and all people can do is tell you what to put on your dog. You need to treat your dog as well, but getting them out of your yard is important also.

I would not let my dogs walk around on Sevin Dust. The poison can be absorbed though the pads on their feet.
Use a topical on the dog and that should keep them from coming in your house. Fleas will not bite a dog that has a topical on him. Vets sell Frontline and Advantage. I use Bio Spot which is otc and costs less. It works just as well. Do not use Hartz. Doesn't work well and too many dogs have had problems with it.

Frontline (which you can get from a vet) works wonders for the animals. Even if there is fleas in the yard, it keeps them from jumping on to the animal.

Seven dust available at gardening places.
You can also put some on your hands and "massage" it directly on the dog's coat.
It is wonderful.
