I don't know, and frankly, I don't care. Any woman stupid enough to follow such ridiculous rules volontarily deserves what she gets.

can i just say to all the uneducated people out there that the burkah is not obligatory (if u know what that means)
a woman however is obliged to wear the hijjab but whenever she feels free to.
Strict parents force there daughters to wear the hijjab however if you read the islamic texts closey it is up to the woman when she weras the hijjab.
And as for all the uneducated the burkah is not even islamic its mainly worn in Saudi Arabia and more strict countries due to culture and not religion.

p.s. i fell sorry for those who dont have a brain

Try and find a book called 'Not without my children' which details a western (American I think) woman who married an Iranian man and went to live in Iran. She was caught up in the revolution there and she was forced to wear a burkah - there is a fantastic description of the claustraphobic nature of the garment (not to mention the smells!) and having to recognise other women by their shoes etc. Sums it all up really. Shame men don't have to wear one as well, maybe they'd realise how demeaning and revolting this treatment of women really is.

I am a Muslim woman who wears hijab - but dosn't cover her face. However I have worn niqab/burka on a few occassions (eg at peace rallies when the police want your photo).

I can see perfectly well through the mesh, probably better than with sungalsses. Also I can see all the way round not just in front.

The Muslim women I know who wear this, do so because they personally want to, not because a man has told them to. Nevertheless I still feel it is better not to cover your face, it allows you to interact with others and smile and make them at ease!

They can see where they're going, of course. A woman who hides her appearance from strangers, is helped by Allah in maintaining her respect in the hearts of men around her.

And veiling is not meant for every woman only. A man is instructed to lower his gaze when he sees a woman coming. You won't understand such things when you're an illegitimate child, raised in a society of nymphomaniacs, having no respect for your parents.

How many women are raped every year in Saudi Arabia? How many women were raped in Afghanistan during the Taliban era? Now check out the figures for USA!! HAhahaha!

Islam provides true and respectable status for women. Iran is not a true Islamic state, for God's sake. Even I can write a book about the hardships I had to face in the USA. It just depends on your perception.

For your kind information, the Talibans, although more strict than they should be, provided women with every basic necessities of life. The educated or skilled women were told to remain inside and if they wanted to continue teaching, young girls were sent in official pick-ups of Talibans to that teacher's home for imparting education, that teacher was paid by the Taliban's government. And every other stuff she needed for everyday life was provided for by the Talibans.

Even the smugglers benefited from Taliban era. They had to pay an amazingly low toll tax for the stuff they used to bring from Iran or other countries to Pakistan through Afghanistan. unlike the previous era, the smugglers said that they never faced any dacoities throughout the Taliban's area :-)

Absolutely yes, because Burkah just covered their forehead, and nose area, not their eyes.

Well..of course they can see cause the front part is not made from thick cloth but it is made from net..so they can see..however different place or country wear different veil..in malaysia we didnt cover up our faces but we did wear veil like the one i'm wearing..

in jordan or mekka they just cover from nose to below which only reveal their eyes..anyway there is reason why we cover up our head..in palestine and iraq because there they usually hav sand storm so they need to cover their whole body from the dust..

wassalam

Without a doubt, they can. It won't make sense if they can't. Some don't cover their eyes and if some do, its made with thin fabric which you can easily see through. It takes alot of courage to follow your religion's believes and faith throughly and these women don't let the modern era disturb their deepest believe.

yes, a woman can only see directly in front of them. If they want to see something other than straight ahead then they must turn to face that way. This means that they are unable to observe anything without others around them knowing that they are looking at.

Actually, they don't cover their faces entirely. They cover all other parts of their face, leaving a gap where their eyes are uncovered and can see.

However, this can be awfully stifling though... just think of how they survive in desert heat - wearing that.
