I have a 10 year old 85 lb boxer who we will be traveling with soon and she has a bad hip so therefore cannot easily get up into our SUV backseat.....any suggestions on what I could use that could fit in my truck while we're traveling?

Check out www.drsfostersmith.com. They have a great selection of ramps for cars.

well, we have 2 150 lb bullmastiffs, what we do is put two containers that you put cloths are anyhting into, and then we but them between the backseat and front seat, where we put our feet when we are riding in the back, and then put blanket's on top of the containers so that it is confertable for them, as for the bad hips, might want to try a dog ramp or if you or someone you live with is strong enough to lift the boxer into the truck, i know it would be hard...lifting a 150 lb bullmsatiff is very hard...but lifting is the only way for us because we have yet to find a dog ramp that can hold 150 lbs haha. i hope this helped!

Can you use a board so that she can simply walk up the plank like a wheel chair ramp so to speak. At 85 pounds you can not easily lift her.

Hope this helps and you have a great car trip!

We just got back from a rather long trip with our dog. We put all the seats down in the back so she has room to move, and laid down blankets and sleeping bags for her to lay on. My dog has some back problems, so we made her a ramp out of a piece of plywood. This way the dog doesn't have to jump to get into the back seat. Also, the plywood can be laid flat for the trip. I have also seen collapsable ramps for dogs sold in some pet stores.

Have you seen those pet hammocks they have for the back seats of vehicles for dogs such as this:

Or is the actual problem getting her into the vehicle? If this is the problem would a ramp or somthing like this work?

Hope everything goes well for you, oh one more thing...also instead of those hammock as mentioned above I have seen things like a gate where you can actually allow your dog to have room in the very back but I know this can be tough especially when packed for a trip.

Have a good one--JammieG.

I assume you mean to get her in and out easily? They have the ramps for sale at Petsmart and stores of that type. When our dog was older we used a similar item and it was great.

If you are going to try and build a ramp yourself, carpet the wood so the dog will have more traction.

a wooden plank can be placed off the back of the tailgate to the ground (like a ramp), that might be better then her having to jump up.
