my dad is a war veteran, he told all of us to watch war movies so if we encounter that in the future, we know what to do.
my dad is the oldest of 10 children, he taught us be respectful to your own sibling and be there for your parents no matter what.
my dad taught us not to bother with people calling you names, bad mouthing cause its just words, but don't let anyone touch us, cause that's a different story.
my mom taught us discipline and always obey your family no matter how strict they are, how unfair it may seems, and be considerate among others.
both of my parents taught us variety of adjustment in life living in the city, the farm and the mountain life, being upper class, middle class and average.
but most of all taught us to show kindness, to be there for everyone, either people or animal, no matter who they are, they are still god creation that needs us, our care and most of all our assistance.

I use to be a completely spoiled brat when I was kid. My dad was extremely strict and though countless times standing in the corner and getting the crap belted out of me (I hate people who hit their kids, I was hit way too much) I learned respect for authority (mainly out of fear), discipline, the ability to sleep while standing (yes - I was made to stand in the corner overnight a few times) and to stop being selfish and stop always thinking of myself.

It sucked, I hated him for it but it did change me for the better.

Be yourself and happy with yourself. People might not always like you, but at the end of the day you will like yourself.

Treat all people kindly while they are still alive, when they are dead, all the sentiments and sweet words will be said in vain.
