We live in a society where people do not like to hear the truth and the truth is what you speak of fitness. Most of society believes that if they are not in a health club, then they can not exercise. That is not true you can exercise at home by doing chores everyday and it does work believe me, and they get frustrated when they exercise and then get on a scale and they have not lost any weight when in actuality they may have lost inches instead of pounds. This makes them have a felling of what is the use of doing this and I am not losing anything. You just have to keep going and realize that it is not going to come off over night, just think about it you did not gain it over night. Once they realize that then they can get the confidence back and keep active and they will not have to worry as much about their health problems and the cost.

I think there's a few reasons for this:
1) We want the easiest way. Going to the gym or actually breaking a sweat is work. Most people don't like to work -- or at least work hard.
2) Instant gratification: Building your fitness level takes time. A lot of people expect to drop 15 pounds in a week after walking on the treadmill for 20 minutes a day. Sorry, it doesn't work that way.
3) Getting something for nothing: Hence the popularity of diet pills and slick ads that promise ripped abs for $20 / bottle. Please....
4) Wacky diets: if I starve myself I can be ripped. Just in the past few weeks of hanging out here, I've been amazed at how many people are duped by crazy diet plans, ultra-low calorie plans, starvation and other gimicks. They think the short term rather than the long term. Also, the popularity of "water drinking" and "hot spices" and "caffeine" to speed up metabolism is crazy. These only allow you to burn an extra 20 - 50 calories a day. Try walking up and down a flight of stairs for 5 minutes a day and you'll burn the same amount of calories. However, people would rather guzzle 2 gallons of water a day. I just don't get it.
5) Ignorance: I've educated myself about the body, nutrition, and fitness. I read half a dozen magazines from cover to cover each month and I practice a lot of what I preach. I am a computer science guy but I find I have to educate myself and learn to throw away the hype and listen to the science.
Just my thoughts.

They understand, but there are advertisers out there that want you to buy their product and we fall for it.
